Bianconere win seven goal thriller against Roma

The first Matchday of the Women's Serie A Poule Scudetto (Championship Round) went the way of the Bianconere in the match played at the Pozzo-La Marmora stadium in Biella by Juventus Women's First Team against Roma. Juventus Women triumphed in a pulsating match full of twists and turns, as Mathilde Harviken's opener and Cristiana Girelli's wonderful hat-trick, were enough to seal a 4-3 victory. The first chance of the match came via the head of Emma Kullberg, following a croner kick, as she tried to direct the ball goalwards but was unable to find the target. In the 7th minute the Giallorossi hit the crossbar with Manuela Giugliano's shot before Girelli's effort over the bar at the other end. It was an intense start to the match, but the best of the action was yet to come. Everything happened between the 19th and 25th minute with the spectators at the Pozzo-La Marmora in Biella witnessing a blow for blow encounter. Harviken gave Juve the lead with a powerful shot, following a rebound in the penalty area, with her effort hitting the crossbar on its way to finding the back of the net; three minutes later came Roma equalised through Moeka Minami and two minutes later they took the lead via Emilie Haavi; In the 25th minute these six hectic minutes reached their pinnacle when Cristiana Girelli, like the fox in the box that she is, latched onto a stray ball and finished with a precise right-footed shot. The main action of the first half was all concentrated in the middle of the period and after 45 minutes of play it was 2-2 in Biella. The second half began with another flurry of goals in a matter of seconds. Girelli got her second goal of the game in the 55th minute following an exchange on the right between Paulima Krumbiegel and Martina Lenzini, with the latter dlivering the ball into the area for Girelli who guided the ball home at full stretch . Two minutes later Evelyne Viens levelled the scoreline following a goalmouth scramble. Then, on the hour mark came Cristiana Girelli's moment of magic, as she sealed her hatrick with a backheel volley to put Juventus back in front. In the closing stages, it was Pauline Peyraud-Magnin who was in the centre of the action, as she had to stop two threatening efforts from Giada Greggi from outside the area. Kathrine Moller Kuhl also came close with a right-footed shot that hit the crossbar. Comments after Juventus Women-Roma

Coach Massimiliano Canzi, Cristiana Girelli and Martina Lenzini spoke to the press after Juventus' 4-3 win against AS Roma on Matchday One of the Serie A Poule Scudetto 'It was a good game, played with great desire and intensity. We prepared for the match knowing that we would have to play like that, we did well physically until the very end, the attention to detail was there even though we conceded two goals from set pieces. We have to improve on the management of the momentum of the match, but today we did well. Mathilde Harviken and Abi Brighton are improving a lot from a physical and tactical point of view, I'm very happy with their attitude and they slotted into the group immediately. Just as we didn't over-react after the defeat against Roma in the first phase of the league, we won't get over-excited at the moment. There are still seven games to go, the road is still long. Today I really liked the spirit of sacrifice, the desire to sacrifice for teammates and never giving up until the end as we have in our DNA at Juventus.' 'When you win a game like this a hat-trick holds even more importance. I am happy with the goals and the performance, as a great team we endured moments of suffering without ever giving up. It was an important match, but there are seven others and we want to play all of them as if they were finals. I dedicate this hat-trick to us, to those who arrived this year and to those who have always been there. I feel good physically, I'm happy to have had confidence bestowed in me that I'm trying to repay on the pitch. I always want to play, to give everything and I'm happy that today went the way it did.' 'This was the first game of the Poule Scudetto, until we have mathematically achieved our goal we don't talk about anything and we continue to work game after game. It is never easy to prepare matches of this calibre in a short time, but the important thing is not quantity but quality, so even preparing the match in a few days we are a strong group to be able to do it. Personally I feel good, we have worked exceptionally well with the staff to prepare and perform at our best in every game.'

Girelli: I am excited to continue my Juve journey

Cristiana Girelli has renewed her contract with Juventus until 30 June 2026 and wanted to share with us all her emotions on such an important day. 'A few weeks ago, on 24 January, I had the privilege of celebrating my 200th appearance for Juventus by scoring and celebrating the success against Inter with my teammates. It was undoubtedly a perfect evening. Today (Friday 14 February), however, the emotions are equally strong because I have signed another contract extension to continue my journey in these colours. Considering the day on which it was signed, Valentine's Day, I can say that it is the renewal of a long love story between myself and Juventus. 'I believe that, every now and then, it is right to stop and look back to reflect on the wonderful things that have happened over these years. I am extremely satisfied with what has been accomplished over my seasons at Juve, both collectively and individually. In general, however, I am not someone who is used to looking back because I like to think that the most beautiful emotions are the ones yet to be experienced. My wish is that we can all experience moments just as happy as the previous ones. What I can say with certainty, however, is that I will renew my love for this club and for this shirt every day, as I have always done up to this point. 'I honestly don't remember if my heading ability was one of my strong points as a child. I think I have developed this ability over the years because, in fact, I only started playing further forward when I arrived at Juventus. Previously I was a midfielder, basically a winger, but since my arrival at Juventus the Director (Stefano Braghin) saw me in a more advanced area of the pitch and from that moment I became a striker. Clearly, by playing closer to the goal, the number of goals I scored increased and, consequently, so did the number of headers. Over the years it has become my trademark. I can't say, however, if I feel I have improved on this fundamental skill. Probably yes, because as the years have gone by, women's football has grown, in all aspects, and with it the demands on each of us, at a physical level, have also grown. Clearly, if I have been able to score so much with my head, the credit must also go to my teammates, current and past, who have put me in the perfect positions to perform at my best, and one above all was Valentina Cernoia. 'At Juventus, even though I arrived at the age of 28, I can say that I have developed as an athlete. I often remind the younger girls, especially those currently in the youth teams, but who occasionally come up to the first team to train with us, to use the attention of our club in the all-round development of their athletes to their advantage. Coming back to me, physically I feel very good at the moment and I'm happy that this year the intensity of training has lifted considerably with the arrival of Coach [Massimiliano] Canzi. As far as I'm concerned, the more the years go by, the more you have to keep your foot on the accelerator to maintain a good state of fitness. Every day I take advantage of this to work on my physique, I take care of all the details to present myself in the best possible condition on match day. I don't want to stop here, I'm not satisfied.'

Three Bianconere named in Serie A Team of the Week

Juventus Women signed off for the Serie A Regular Season in scintillating style on Sunday, with a stunning 6-0 win away at Milan. Cristiana Girelli stole the show with a hat-trick but, as the scoreline would suggest, there were a number of Bianconere who impressed on the day, and three in all made the offifial 'Top XI' - Team of the Week - for the Matchday 18 games. Let's take a look at who, and why... EMMA KULLBERG Of the players with a 100% success rate in tackles this weekend, Emma was the player who attempted the most - five. The also blocked four shots, which was more than anybody else. LISA BOATTIN Lisa was one of two players - along with Napoli's Maja Jelcic - to have scored and assisted on Matchday 18. As well, in Milan, only Paulina Krumbiegel (eight) made more crosses than her seven. CRISTIANA GIRELLI As well as scoring a first-half hat-trick, Girelli won the most aerial duels on the day with four, two of which led to headed goals (her first and third).
