Wolf Creek Expo Center to open this fall in Grove
GROVE, Okla. – Grove city leaders broke ground on Wednesday for a new event center. 'It's an exciting day for Grove and Grand Lake,' said Amanda Davis, Grove Area Chamber president. She said that thousands of visitors come to Grand Lake every year to 'Live the Grand Life. ' 'Wolf Creek Expo Center will be a wonderful venue to showcase our many events,' Davis said. The American Heritage Music Festival is at Har-Ber Village this weekend, and the 2025 Fairy Festival is set for Saturday at Lendonwood Gardens. 'Wolf Creek Expo Center is expected to be completed by the fall,' said Grove City Manager Debbie Bottoroff. The 51,000 sq. ft. event center will be located at Wolf Creek Park, west of Grove, on the Wolf Creek arm of Grand Lake. The building will be a premier venue for various community events, conventions, and entertainment. During the rainy ceremony, Ivan Crossland and Ed Townsend were recognized for their key contributions to the project. Townsend is the founder of the Bank of Grand Lake, and Crossland is the CEO of Crossland Construction. Bottoroff said the Bank of Grand Lake's financing for the event center includes interest-only payments for the first 12 months. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Summer school continues in Columbus thanks to donation
CHEROKEE COUNTY, Kan. — With the help of a donation, the Columbus school district can host another year of summer school. Crossland Construction has stepped up to donate $30,000 to the school district. For the past several years, administrators have used 'Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funds' provided during COVID to fund summer school. But those funds have run out, prompting Crossland to step up to help. The money will help cover transportation, staffing, as well as breakfast and lunch, and other food services. 'When you take an 11-week break in the summer, they're losing more than just what maybe a typical kid would lose. So we want to keep just the exposure for those kids,' said Kelly Walters, Columbus USD 493's district reading specialist. 'This summertime is really vital for them to just be continuing to work at it, even if it's something small, even if it's 30 minutes a day. And so being able to offer that is, like I said, it's a game changer for some of these kids,' said Anna Moser, Park Elementary principal. Summer school is set to start in two sessions, the first will run from June 2 through June 12, and the second will start July 28 and wrap up sometime in August before the start of school.
