Sarma flags concerns after Gogoi's Pak visit admission
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the fact that the newly-appointed Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Gaurav Gogoi has admitted that he visited Pakistan and that his wife worked there for a year only shows that what will unravel in future will be far more serious. Sarma's comments came after Gaurav told media persons in New Delhi, "About 14-15 years ago, my wife, who is a well-known expert in public policy, worked on an international project in South Asia focused on climate change. She spent one year in Pakistan before returning to India around 2012-13. Since then, she has continued her work and took up a job in India in 2015. I also remember going with her once, in 2013. So, they are making an issue of it as their work is only to demean, and that's why they are creating this whole thing like a C-grade Bollywood movie." In response, Sarma stated on X, "Finally, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has admitted that he visited Pakistan. But let us be very clear - this is just the beginning, not the end. What lies ahead is far more serious. There exists every reasonable ground, supported by credible inputs and documented information, to suggest that Shri Gogoi has maintained proximity with the Pakistani establishment. The government of Assam, committed to transparency and accountability, will make everything public on 10th September, once the Special Investigation Team (SIT) concludes its comprehensive inquiry. The people of Assam and the nation deserve the truth - and they shall have it, in full. But the people will also not forget - nor forgive - the Congress party and Shri Rahul Gandhi for deliberately promoting such a dangerous and compromised individual into the public life of our country." Sarma said that what Gaurav has said is just 10% of the real facts -- the rest would be revealed on September 10. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Crossout 2.0: Supercharged Crossout Play Now Undo

Navigating volatility: Why staggered SIPs make sense for small & mid cap MFs right now
Considering the recent market developments, investors need to be more strategic with their portfolio allocation and should consider a lump sum approach more suitable for hybrid, large cap, and flexi cap mutual funds as these categories are considered relatively stable and can absorb volatility better, making them appropriate for immediate deployment of capital, according to a release by Motilal Oswal Private Wealth. On the other hand, mid and small cap strategies are better approached with caution and given the sharp run-up in these segments and their inherent volatility, a staggered investment approach over the next 2–3 months is advisable. Any potential market pullbacks in the near term should be viewed as opportunities for more aggressive allocation in these segments. In the fixed income space, recent economic indicators point towards a benign inflation trend and rising concerns over economic growth. These factors have prompted the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to shift its stance slightly in favor of supporting the economy. This macro environment bodes well for fixed income investors, particularly in funds that can benefit from falling interest rates or stable yields. Live Events '25% - 35% of the portfolio may be invested in Arbitrage Funds (minimum 3 months holding period), Floating Rate Funds (9 – 12 months holding period), Absolute Return Long/Short strategies (minimum 12 -15 months holding period). For tax efficient fixed income alternative solutions, 20% - 25% of the portfolio may be allocated in Conservative Equity Savings funds (minimum 3 years holding period),' the report said. Motilal Oswal Private Wealth conducted a small study that tracked the journey of the Nifty 50 Index and two actively managed funds in the last 29 years. The study yielded some discoveries of the equity markets of which first was that negative or low return periods were perpetually followed by medium to high return periods. This observation is a simple explanation for understanding that equity returns are nonlinear and tend to be bunched in a few years. Another important finding was that approximately 66.67% of the time one-year absolute returns were positive. Also Read | 8 equity mutual funds lose over 10% in 2025. Have you invested in any? Secondly, in the case of active funds, there were some further motivating discoveries. In spite of having a poor entry point and suffering negative returns in the first year, the active fund managers were successfully able to produce positive annualized returns on a 5-year period and double digit returns on a 10-year period. And lastly, compounding has a much larger effect on investment returns than realized and that one should not get easily spooked by negative returns as they will fade with time. When looking at these several data points, the bear markets appear to be like minor speed bumps in a consistent rally, but this is a view in hindsight.

Telegram's Durov repeats claim France interfered in Romania vote
The co-founder and CEO of the Telegram messaging app, Pavel Durov , on Tuesday repeated his allegation that French intelligence pressured him to interfere in this month's Romanian presidential election . Durov's renewed claim during the Oslo Freedom Forum contradicted a denial by the DGSE , the foreign intelligence service of France, where he faces charges related to criminal activity on the Telegram platform. "I was indeed asked by the head of French intelligence, Nicolas Lerner", to turn off conservative Romanian Telegram channels ahead of the election, Durov said in an appearance by video after French judicial authorities denied his request to travel to Norway. Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Crossout 2.0: Supercharged Crossout Play Now Undo "It's very important to be very transparent about what kinds of request we receive," added Durov, who did not provide fresh evidence for his claim. The 40-year-old, who holds French and Russian passports, was detained in Paris in August 2024 and is under investigation over illegal content on his popular messaging service. Live Events The Romanian election, re-run due to alleged Russian interference after a first-round vote put a far-right candidate ahead, ultimately saw pro-European centrist Nicusor Dan defeat nationalist George Simion. Discover the stories of your interest Blockchain 5 Stories Cyber-safety 7 Stories Fintech 9 Stories E-comm 9 Stories ML 8 Stories Edtech 6 Stories Romania's constitutional court on Thursday denied Simion's challenge to the results, which he based in part on claims of French and Moldovan interference. The court called his allegations "completely false and unfounded". The DGSE last week said it has contacted Durov in the past "to firmly remind him of (Telegram's) responsibilities... concerning prevention of terrorist and child pornography threats". But it "refuted vigorously" his allegations about attempted Romanian election interference. Durov also said Tuesday that Telegram "received a demand from the French police to shut down a public channel on Telegram which was organised by far-left protesters and demonstrators". The channel "seemed completely legitimate, and we refused to comply, despite the obvious personal risks I'm taking", he added. Durov was allowed in March to travel to Dubai, where his company is based, but French judicial authorities have more recently stopped him travelling to the United States to meet investors or to Norway for the Freedom Forum, organised by the Human Rights Foundation, a non-profit organisation. He called the investigation "frustratingly slow", adding that Telegram was "held at higher standards than most other platforms" — with the likes of Facebook or Snapchat "protected by this big American government". Since his arrest, Durov had appeared to bow to Paris's demands for stronger efforts to ensure illegal content -- such as child abuse and drug trading — was not on Telegram.
