There's a huge spell coming up for North Wales Crusaders

At the midway point of the League One season, Crusaders are sitting at the top of the standings. However, a challenging run of matches is on the horizon, starting with Sunday's home clash against second-placed Midlands Hurricanes. Cru's next two matches after this are against Workington Town and Dewsbury Rams, who sit third and fourth in the table. Head coach Forster, who saw his side get the better of Rochdale Hornets 32-12 in their last run-out, told CruCast: 'They seem to get bigger every week, don't they? Obviously, Dewsbury winning at Workington, now they're in the top-four. 'So, our next league games are second, third and fourth, and, obviously, Rochdale are sat fourth when we've played them. 'So, it's a big phase of the season. I've said to the lads... I think in four, five games... we'll have a good indication whether we're going to be sat top or we're going to be, you know, that third, fourth team in the division, and it's exciting. 'It's games you want to be involved in and we look forward to it.'

Top spot for Crusaders on the back of a home triumph

Carl Forster's side knew victory at home to Newcastle Thunder would take them back into pole position in League One and a 74-0 success did the job to move them above Workington Town and Midlands Hurricanes. North Wales got off to a superb start and they had the lead as early as the third minute. After taking possession in his own half, Lloyd Roby broke through the Newcastle defensive line and managed to grab the opening try in the corner. Things got even better for North Wales in the 14th minute when Toby Hughes grabbed the next score, which was converted by Jordy Gibson. Then, in the 20th minute, Crusaders stretched their lead out to 16 points. Sam Wilde claimed the third try and Gibson duly added the extras. Six minutes later and Cru had another try. Despite being under pressure, Hughes managed to spot a gap for his second score of the afternoon. By half-time, North Wales had built-up a healthy 36-0 advantage. Further tries were supplied by Ollie Brookes, Shaun Costello and Josh Eaves, two of which were converted by Gibson. Brookes added two tries early in the second half to complete his hat-trick and further scores quickly came from Paddy Jones, Eaves and Roby as Cru ran riot. In the last 10 minutes, Brookes added his fourth of the contest and Jack Houghton scored the last try three minutes from time. Gibson added the extras to five of the second half tries.

It was all in the start for Crusaders' coach Forster

Cru have made a habit of forging superb second half fightbacks this season, but they got their work done early by building up a 26-point advantage at the midway point of their 42-12 home win over Whitehaven. This triumph took Crusaders to the top of the League One standings and Forster told Cru TV: 'We spoke about starting well, starting better. The last two games, obviously, we've been 10 and 12 behind at half-time. 'So, we knew if we went set-for-set that we'd find a few weaknesses, obviously, in the Whitehaven team that we looked at through the week, and just the way we wanted to play. 'We wanted to move them round a little bit and play a bit more expansive, and I thought we nailed the game-plan pretty much to a 'T' in the first half and we reaped the rewards with 26 points and, obviously, what was really pleasing was the nil.' Olly Davies, Pat Ah Van (pictured above), Sam Wilde and Lloyd Roby grabbed the first half tries for Cru, setting them on their way to a fifth win in a row.

It'll be a day to remember with RGC and Crusaders in action

Spectators can watch union and league, with RGC and North Wales Crusaders both in action at the venue, marking the clubs' first ever double-header. First up, at 2.30pm, RGC will begin their Super Rugby Cymru play-off quest with their match-up versus Carmarthen Quins. RGC should head into the match in confident mood after last week's 59-38 victory over Aberavon. Crusaders' big League One showdown with Whitehaven will kick-off at 6pm, with the winners going on to the top of the table. Whitehaven, coached by former Cru chief Anthony Murray (pictured), are second, while Crusaders are in third. Last time out Cru beat leaders Midlands Hurricanes 31-18, but head coach Carl Forster says this will count for little if they don't follow it up tomorrow. He told Cru TV: 'This counts for nothing if we don't turn up. They had a real tough contest against Workington and they're well coached. 'We obviously know Muzz (Murray) very well. I know a lot of their boys. Really good team, fight for everything.'

Violence interrupter, DC man charged with first-degree murder in H Street lounge shooting

WASHINGTON () — Two men are facing murder charges in connection to a shooting that happened a year and a half ago in Northeast D.C. One of them is a known violence interrupter. 44-year-old Cotey Wynn was charged, not for pulling the trigger but police said for facilitating the shooting. In September 2023, former Morgan State University basketball player Blake Bozeman was shot and killed at Cru Lounge Hookah Bar. Police announced Friday the arrest of Antwan Shelton and Wynn. Both were charged with first-degree murder while armed. PREVIOUS COVERAGE | Two arrested for shooting at Northeast DC nightclub that killed former Morgan State basketball player Wynn has been working with the D.C. Office of the Attorney General as a violence interrupter. 'I know he does a lot for the community. He runs a safe passage program, so my initial reaction was just a state of shock,' said Jawanna Hardy, founder of Guns Down Friday. Hardy does her own violence interruption as the founder of . 'We cross paths a lot. A lot of the kids that I work with are a part of his program and they speak very highly of him,' said Hardy. In court documents, police noted that Shelton allegedly shot and killed Bozeman and injured several others on the second floor of Cru Lounge. Investigators said video footage showed Wynn helped Shelton get into the lounge with a gun, bypassing security. Wynn was standing at the bar and never ducked down or took cover as he watched Shelton fire his gun on the dance floor. DC leaders break ground on new recreation Center, early childhood education center in Fort Lincoln According to court documents, Wynn gave Shelton a hand gesture, pointing toward the stairway exit to leave, at which point, Shelton ran down the stairs and outside to the vehicle Wynn parked across the street. Hardy doesn't want all violence interrupters to be seen in a poor light. 'Just like the police system they look at the system different because of the actions of one violence interrupter and I just, I don't feel that it's fair in an organization like mine,' Hardy said. In a statement to DC News Now, a spokesperson from the D.C. Office of the Attorney General said the office did not have knowledge of Wynn's involvement in any events. These allegations are deeply troubling, and our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and their loved ones. Our office had no knowledge of Cotey's potential involvement in any events related to his arrest. He is well known throughout the District for his anti-violence work and is respected across the community. We will support our law enforcement partners as they finish their investigation and respect the need for the legal process to unfold.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
