Beer brand announces looming closure of Northeast Portland brewery, taproom

PORTLAND, Ore. () — After marking its 10th anniversary, a local beer brand has announced its final days in Northeast Portland. Over the weekend, Culmination Brewing revealed that Feb. 15 will be the final day of operations for its brewery and taproom on 2117 NE Oregon St. The company cited post-pandemic struggles as the reason behind the closure. What to know 'We never fully recovered from the financial challenges that COVID brought us despite Herculean efforts by our incredible staff and our amazing brewers Daniel Hughes and Andy Scott,' . 'Since COVID craft beer has been a very tough business, and with much gratitude and thanks to all the people who have supported Culmination Brewing Company, we have decided that now is the time to close both the taproom and the brewery.' The brewery debuted its Kerns neighborhood taproom in January 2015. The company has since become a hallmark of Portland's craft beer industry, hosting events like the Baker's Dozen Coffee Beer & Doughnut Fest and securing Oregon Beer Awards. As reported by , Culmination Brewing originally warned customers of a potential closure in August 2023. That same month, the company brought on longtime supporter Steven Shomler to help save the taproom. Culmination also launched the digital series 'A Brewery Worth Saving' to discuss its next steps. The final episode was released last August, with the , 'One year later we are still here and we a have gone from 'A Brewery Worth Saving' to 'A Brewery on the Rise.'' The company is now saying it's time to call it quits. Portland landlords face $1.8M lawsuit for 'miserably cold' units FOMO Kitchen, which serves Korean fried chicken within the taproom, is also set to close.
