The application was validated on Wednesday (June 4) and it is for a site at Cumbria Logistics which is based at Sandysike Industrial Estate. According to a planning statement the site is approximately 10 miles north of Carlisle next to the A7 road The report states: 'The land in the area of the site was originally used by 14MU for the MOD but was changed to an industrial estate when it was no longer required for that purpose. It is now designated for employment use in the Carlisle District Local Plan. 'The site used by Cumbria Logistics extends to some 1.4hectares (3.5 acres). The new car park area, ie the red line site for this application, extends to 0.33 hectares. The appropriate notices have been served on the owners of the land to inform them of this planning application. 'The company operate a trans-shipment centre from the site which involves operating some 39 heavy goods vehicles and five vans which deliver goods within Cumbria and the borders.' According to the report the business serves the north of England and the Scottish Borders. It adds: 'The business involves large goods vehicles arriving early in the morning at the site then being unloaded and the goods transferred to smaller vehicles for delivery to customers.' The application is currently being considered by planning officers at the council.
