SAFE project to be rolled out in Ernakulam Lok Sabha constituency

A five-year-long Substance Abuse Free Environment Village (SAFE) project is set to be implemented in the Ernakulam Parliament constituency with the goal of creating a drugs-free society. The project is being implemented with assistance from Hibi Eden, MP. Actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran will inaugurate the 'No Entry' anti-drugs campaign to mark the inauguration of the project at Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology on June 26. The project will be implemented in a phased manner under 'Project Venda' of Fourth Wave Foundation with the support of the Jain (Deemed-to-be-University) and the Kochi-based Future Kerala Mission. Addressing the media here on Monday, Mr. Eden said the project would be implemented in association with the Kochi Corporation, six municipalities, and 24 panchayats. 'The idea is to ensure the coordination of people's representatives, educational institutions, and social organisations for the serious cause of protecting students and youngsters from drug menace,' he said. The 'No Entry' campaign proposes a strong declaration by the individual and society in general in a collective resistance against drugs. Preventing the entry of drugs into one's body, life, and household remains the core of the campaign. SAFE project is an acclaimed programme against drugs being implemented by the Fourth Wave Foundation under Project Venda for the past 10 years. The project has received accolades nationally and globally. Fourth Wave Foundation director C.C. Joseph expressed satisfaction at the opportunity to expand the project to the Ernakulam Parliament constituency. Social awareness campaigns, educational programmes in schools, and the formation of local cells against drugs would be implemented with the help of local bodies and voluntary organisations, he said. SAFE project comes after Mr. Eden's 'Cup of Life', a project that entered the Guinness Book of World Records by distributing 1,00,001 free menstrual cups across 126 venues in 24 hours in 2022.
