"Star Wars" Series in the Works
Yara Sameh A mysterious new 'Star Wars' series is in early development from 'Lost' co-showrunner Carlton Cuse and his son, Nick Cuse. There are practically no other details available about the show, such as which characters it will include, when it will take place in the 'Star Wars' timeline, or which actors will be cast. Cuse is not the first 'Lost' alum to travel to a galaxy far, far away. J.J. Abrams, a co-creator of the sci-fi classic, directed 2015's 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' and 2019's 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.' And Damon Lindelof, Cuse's co-showrunner on 'Lost,' was hired to co-write a film with Justin Britt-Gibson centered on Daisy Ridley's character, Rey. However, Lindelof said in 2023 that he was 'asked to leave' the 'Star Wars' universe, and he and Britt-Gibson were replaced as writers by 'Peaky Blinders' creator Steven Knight. Knight eventually departed the project, which is still in development with writer George Nolfi and director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Also in development is a new 'Star Wars' trilogy from writer Simon Kinberg and a film with Taika Waititi attached to direct. At the 'Star Wars' event in Tokyo last week, Lucasfilm confirmed the upcoming 'Star Wars: Starfighter' movie, directed by 'Deadpool & Wolverine' helmer Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling. After 'Lost,' Carlton Cuse went on to develop 'Bates Motel' as he simultaneously served as showrunner on the FX drama 'The Strain.' More recently, he worked on 'Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan,' 'Locke & Key,' and 'Pulse,' Netflix's first medical procedural drama series. The younger Cuse is a writer and producer whose credits include 'The Leftovers,' 'Watchmen,' and 'Station Eleven.' New Star Wars Series in the Works From Lost EP Carlton Cuse
The Star Wars franchise may have found its new showrunner in a Lost alum — and a new TV show might not be so far, far away. A new Star Wars series is in the works from Lost executive producer Carlton Cuse, our sister site Variety confirms. (The InSneider first reported the news.) Cuse is joined on the new series by his son Nick Cuse, whose credits include Watchmen, Station Eleven and Masters of the Air. Beyond that, no details on the series have been revealed. Cuse also served as showrunner on the A&E series Bates Motel, which wrapped up a five-season run in 2017, as well as FX's The Strain, which ran for four seasons. His other TV credits include Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, Locke & Key and Netflix's new medical drama Pulse. The new series would join several in the Star Wars franchise, with Andor returning for its second and final season on Disney+ this week. Ahsoka is set to return for a second season as well — with Hayden Christensen reprising his role as Anakin Skywalker — and The Mandalorian is moving to the big screen with The Mandalorian & Grogu, arriving in theaters next year.
