No double joy to end a great campaign for Brickfield Rangers
Rangers, who lifted the Ardal North East League title a week ago, couldn't add more silverware as Porthmadog, who finished third in the North West League, deservedly took the honours. Dan Brookwell gave Porthmadog the perfect start with a second minute goal and it was 2-0 on 20 minutes as Tom Hilditch scored from the spot. Both players also netted again although Hilditch was shown a red card with 12 minutes to go. Rangers' consolation goal came from top scorer Andy Vale. While Brickfield head into Cymru North, Llay Welfare will take their place in the Ardal North set-up. And it's all change at the club where former first team boss Mike Gadie, who led Llay to Cymru North 12 months before they were relegated after one season, has taken over as chairman. And he has announced the club's new manager as Neill Hughes. 'Following our relegation back to Tier 3, it was crucial to bring in someone with a deep understanding of the league and local football scene - and Neill ticks all the boxes,' said Gadie. 'Having come up against him during our time in the Ardal North West, I was always impressed by the work rate, discipline and attitude of his sides. 'After an initial conversation and a positive meeting with myself and the vice-chairmen, it quickly became clear that Neill shares our vision for the future of the club. We're confident he's the right person to lead us into this exciting new chapter.' Hughes said: 'I am delighted to be taking on the opportunity of managing such a great club. 'Everybody I've met is passionate and proud of the Welly and what is developing. Myself and my coaching team can't wait to get started and help play a part in shaping the club's future'. In the final game of the North East Wales League season, Penyffordd Lions beat FC Queen's Park 4-1 in Group B of the Reserves Division. Matt Holmes blasted in a hat-trick in the victory.

Trophy treble finishes great season on a high for Airbus
After just missing out on the Cymru North title following an epic race with eventual champions Colwyn Bay, Airbus have shook off this disappointment in style by claiming a trophy hat-trick. On the back of winning the Cymru North Cup and Cymru Cup, the Wingmakers lifted the North East Wales FA Challenge Cup for the first time in their history via a 4-0 triumph over Holywell Town in the final. Reflecting on the support he has received from the backroom staff this season, boss Allen told the club's website: 'They are a real pleasure to work with and have supported me throughout the season in a number of ways that people don't see, as well as the obvious ones. I can't speak highly enough of them all.' George Peers, Josh Stevenson, Sam Baker and Ieuan Jones-Wellstead shared the goals to make sure of the trophy treble for Airbus. Corwen lifted the North East Wales Reserves' Cup courtesy of a 2-1 outcome against Mynydd Isa and FC Queen's Park pipped Rhostyllen 1-0 to lift the Horace Wynne Cup.

Cup glory is the main aim for Airbus and Holywell sides
And Warren has more than obliged in his debut season for the Wingmakers in Cymru North where he ended up the league's top scorer with 24 goals in 27 games. 'When I signed the manager said the lads will create chances and I just want you to score them,' said Warren. 'He insisted that he wanted nothing else from me, just scoring goals!' After goals galore during his days at Alyn Park, Warren hasn't looked out of place in the higher league. 'To be honest, I wasn't surprised that I'd score a lot this season because you can see what a good team we are,' added the striker. 'There's more finer details in Cymru North than there were in the Ardal League but I've always thought I'd gets goals. But there's more expectation at this level.' Whether Warren gets the chance to add to his tally in tomorrow's final showdown with Holywell Town remains to be seen. He didn't feature in the early round wins over Hawarden Rangers and Lex XI but started last month's thrilling semi-final shoot-out win against Corwen. 'The young lads have been given the chance in this competition and they got us to the final,' added Warren, whose side finished runners-up to Colwyn Bay but lifted both Cymru Cups. 'We had 16-year-olds and 17-year-olds in the side that beat Corwen. 'But Holywell is a big game, there's a bit of rivalry and the North East Wales FA Cup is something Airbus has never won before. 'The home game against Holywell in the league was a bit of a weird one. We battered them 8-3 and then we lost 2-1 away.' Holywell boss Johnny Haseldin wants to continue the habit of picking up silverware each season. The Wellmen claimed the Cymru North title in 2024, 12 months after they lifted the North East Wales FA Cup. While Airbus have had a busy spell of matches, Holywell's last run out was their 3-2 semi-final win over Mold Alex on April 17. 'We have got to make sure we look after ourselves and prepare as best we can,' said Haseldin. 'We spoke about it in training. We know the odds are against us, but we're not a team that looks for excuses. We want to go there and win it. 'At the start of the year, a cup and third place in the league was realistic and we have done that as a minimum. It's roll our sleeves up time.' Haseldin is keen to end the campaign on a high for everyone associated with the club. He added: 'Not just for the players, but for our brilliant supporters, who follow us through thick and thin.' What a season it has turned out to be for Airbus - and boss Allen is targeting a trophy treble. The Wingmakers have recovered from just missing out on the Cymru North title by claiming the Cymru North Cup and all-Wales Cymru Cup over recent weeks and Allen has praised his players for their efforts. He told the club's website: 'Extremely proud of the group this year and I include the lads from the development squad too who have stepped up. 'The aims we set out to achieve for this season have nearly all happened and, yes, the disappointment of not being promoted is difficult, it also spurs you on to achieve it when we resume for pre-season and I'm sure others in the group think the same too. 'As for this game Saturday, it's another final we are in and we want to win and get another piece of silverware for ourselves and the club. 'A completely different type of opponent that we are aware of and what they will bring to the game. But, yes, looking forward to the game.'

Airbus and Holywell up for the cup with silverware at stake
The Wingmakers have home advantage as they tackle fellow Cymru North high-flyers Holywell Town in the final of the North East Wales FA Challenge Cup. Since just missing out on the league title, Mark Allen's side have gone on to win the Cymru North Cup and Cymru Cup over recent weeks. Airbus booked their spot in the final with a thrilling penalty shootout success versus Corwen in the last-four and Allen told the club's website: 'Last time out I was very pleased with those involved in the second half and the way they kept going in the game and got us back into it.' It has been a mixed campaign for Holywell, whose defence of their Cymru North title saw them conclude the season in third position. Boss Johnny Haseldin said: 'We have experienced the highs and lows as well, and we know which side we want to be on the end of on Saturday.' A feast of football is in store over the course of the weekend with a number of other North East Wales FA finals lined up. It all begins this evening with Rhostyllen meeting FC Queen's Park in the Horace Wynne Cup final.

Airbus aiming to secure more silverware in all-Wales final
The Wingmakers are on a trophy trail at the end of the season and part one was successfully completed as they battled back to get the better of Bangor 1876 in the final of the Cymru North Cup. This has set up a trip to Aberystwyth's Park Avenue tomorrow to take on Cymru South Cup winners Trefelin BGC in the all-Wales final. It's something of a step into the unknown for the Cymru North runners-up Airbus, who are still involved in this season's North East Wales FA Cup, and boss Mark Allen told the club's YouTube channel: 'Don't know much about them, to be honest. 'But, you know, I think it'll be a great occasion for us. It's a national final and we'll go down there looking to stamp our authority on the game and get a win. 'That's what we'll do. We'll plan in the week and prep, make sure we're rested and right, and then we'll go again.' After just coming up short in their epic battle for the title with Colwyn Bay, the Wingmakers claimed a 2-1 victory in their Cymru North Cup final match-up with Bangor 1876. It was a major accomplishment for the club's pathway, with a number of players who started in the Airbus Academy picking up silverware. Allen stressed: 'You know, they've contributed throughout the whole season and I know we speak about it a lot, but we never get bored of doing that. 'It's a good Academy and, like I said last week, it's testament to Rich (Cusato) and his coaches to get them through and ready, and you look at George Peers, man of the match (in the final), who's contributed so much to the season, you know, and really a stalwart for the team this year. 'So, it's like a roller-coaster of players coming through, which is great for the club.' Trefelin's dangerman is likely to be 48-year-old Lee Trundle. The former Wrexham and Swansea striker was on target to help his side defeat Penrhiwceiber Rangers in the Cymru South Cup final. Writing on Instagram, Trundle said: 'What a night for @ so proud to play with these talented boys. These nights are why we play football. 3-1 win and a goal to top it off. 'Buzzing for everyone involved at the club for the hard work they do behind the scenes to make nights like this happen.' Meanwhile, for Danny Warren, he is looking to double-up once again. Warren, who made the move to Airbus last summer, was a part of the Mold Alex squad that beat Llandudno in last season's Cymru North Cup final, before following it up with a 4-2 triumph over Briton Ferry Llansawel in the all-Wales final. Airbus will meet Corwen in the semi-finals of the North East Wales FA Cup next Tuesday.
