'My record gets taken for granted'

In his managerial career Neil Lennon has won five Scottish Premiership titles, four Scottish Cups, one League Cup, one Scottish Championship, and one Cypriot Cup. Not a bad haul of trophies, is it?Yet because the bulk of it - 10 of 12 - came when he helmed Celtic, Lennon feels his record doesn't always get the respect it deserves."I think people take it for granted," Lennon told BBC Scotland. "Sometimes I take the wins for granted as well, but the older you get, the more you realise that was good. That was really good."Having just signed a two-year deal to remain with second-tier Dunfermline Athletic, whom he joined on a short-term basis in March, the 53-year-old Celtic icon has plenty of drive left in him."Football moves on quickly and people forget about you. I know my place in the game there and what I need to do for myself. That's bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to this club and to the players," he added."I want to be a success. I don't like talking too much about myself because I always feel like you set yourself up for a fall. But yeah, I've done okay. I want more."I want more experiences, I want more success, I want more silverware, I want more. I think that's just been sort of in me since I was a kid. My playing career was good in terms of trophies."I'm getting old. I don't get much excitement these days. I still have a passion and love for the game, and I want to do it my way."Lennon, who won five top-flight titles among 11 major honours as a Celtic player, credits former boss Martin O'Neill for teaching him "everything about the game" and instilling a winning mentality."I learnt things at Crewe, I learnt things at Leicester and that was under Martin and that really sort of developed me into the mindset of what was needed because he had been so successful himself as a player under Brian Clough," he added."So that really was the sort of slam-dunk moment in my life or career was working under him for 10 years. I worked under him in his pomp and I learnt everything about the game from him. "Martin was the one that really drove the winning sort of ethos into me."

Shamrock Rovers snap up Northern Ireland Under-21s goal-getter as Stephen Bradley gives exciting verdict 'I spoke to a few of his managers previously and they all raved about him on and off the pitch. I had a good conversation with Neil Lennon about him, he had him in Celtic and in Cyprus and couldn't speak highly enough of him. We'd done our homework with Stephen but then when you hear that from someone like Neil, it was a no-brainer. He said: 'You've got a good manager, good tactically, so it's very similar to a lot of the clubs that I've been at to be honest. Obviously the facilities in some of the clubs are a bit better, but at the bigger clubs, you're going to get that. 'Training-wise, I think it's very similar. It's a very competitive league. I think you can see by the league table that anyone can beat anyone. 'But we're on a good run at the minute, created a bit of a gap. Our aim is to try and keep winning games and make the gap bigger.'
