Mother's Day is May 11. Here are some gifts she'll love from local stores
MONROE COUNTY — Mother's Day is May 11. In the U.S., the holiday to celebrate moms is observed on the second Sunday of May. Some of the top Google search results for gifts for mom are jewelry and accessories, tech gadgets, gourmet treats, personalized gifts and home décor.
Learn what a few locally owned Monroe County stores suggest for Mother's Day gifts. One store will even sell a special collection of jewelry on Saturday, May 10. The Frenchtown Firefighters Association also will hold its annual Mother's Day flower sale May 10.
"Mother's Day is such a special time to celebrate and show appreciation for the moms and mother figures in our lives," Amanda Sharp, owner of Pressed Rose, 2828 Lewis Ave. in Ida, said in an email. "At Pressed Rose, we've been seeing a lot of excitement around thoughtful, meaningful gifts that make moms feel loved and pampered."
"One of our most popular gift options this spring has been our custom gift baskets. These can be filled with a variety of goodies, from cozy candles and delicious jams to cheerful potted plants and are tailored to fit any personality or style," Sharp said.

Sharp also suggests personalized cutting boards, upcycled Michigan sweatshirts, handcrafted, one-of-a-kind pottery and tallow products (self-care, natural skin products).
"While these gift suggestions are wonderful, there's absolutely nothing wrong with keeping things simple," Sharp said. "A handmade gift, a batch of home-baked goodies or a bouquet of hand-picked flowers paired with a meaningful handwritten note can be just as, if not more, special. Gifts from the heart are often the ones moms treasure the most."
The Monroe News asked some other Monroe County businesses for gift ideas. Here's what they had to say.
Jamie Hunter, owner of The Rusty Cup, 2866 Lewis Ave. in Ida, said gift cards are always approved gifts for Mother's Day. 'We have merchandise and bagged coffee, but gift cards are always our top seller,' she said.
Cyprus Sea Salt fragrance scented candles, hand soaps, lotions and countertop sprays, fashion jewelry in gold, stationary charm necklaces and multi-layered beaded bracelets are popular gift choices, according to Josephine Archer, owner of Sofi Stella Boutique, 15155 S. Dixie Hwy. in Monroe.
Laura Cousino, owner of I Am Botanicals at 6 E. First St. in Monroe, suggests handcrafted soaps and body butters for mom. Her Fuchsia Flower, a soap with a floral and citrus scent, and lavender soap are products customers are gravitating toward, along with body butters, like lavender vanilla, which are used to deeply moisturize the skin.
