Gunmen on the run after six shot in French city

Gunfire erupted on Friday evening in the Pissevin area of Nîmes in France. A major manhunt is underway in southern France after six people were shot in a bloodbath in a city district notorious for drug crime — with one victim left fighting for life. Gunfire erupted on Friday evening in the Pissevin area of Nîmes, as terrified residents fled for cover and told loved ones to stay indoors, reports the Mirror. ‌ Emergency services raced to the scene on Passage Avogrado where multiple people were gunned down in what police believe may be a targeted attack. ‌ All six victims were rushed to hospital, with one understood to be in a critical condition. French police have launched an investigation for attempted murder and confirmed the shooters remain at large. The Pissevin district, long known for drug gang activity, was rocked by a wave of deadly shootings — including the tragic killing of a 10-year-old boy and the execution-style murder of an 18-year-old just days apart in August 2023. Locals described the horror of hearing gunshots ring out as families were returning home from work and relaxing outside in the cooler evening temperatures. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! One said they were shocked, as the area had been 'quiet' in recent weeks — but added that trouble was 'always bubbling under the surface'. The 2023 attacks sparked national outrage. In the first, young Fayed was shot dead while sitting in a car with his uncle. Just days later, an 18-year-old was ambushed and gunned down nearby. At the time, prosecutor Cécile Gensac described the child's death as a case of being 'in the wrong place at the wrong time'.
