China's Xi Jinping says China must 'overcome' AI chip challenges

President Xi Jinping said China must "overcome" the challenges of developing core AI technologies including high-end chips, state media reported Saturday, as Beijing seeks to become a world leader in the rapidly developing industry. #Pahalgam Terrorist Attack India pulled the plug on IWT when Pakistanis are fighting over water What makes this India-Pakistan standoff more dangerous than past ones The problem of Pakistan couldn't have come at a worse time for D-St China aims to dominate the artificial intelligence sector, a goal complicated by the trade standoff with Washington that could further deprive Chinese industry of certain key technologies. The world's two leading economies are locked in an escalating tit-for-tat trade battle triggered by US President Donald Trump's new levies on Chinese goods, which have reached 145 percent on many products. Beijing has responded with new 125 percent duties on imports from the United States. Political support was essential to achieve this, Xi stressed, citing in particular "a combination of policies such as intellectual property rights, taxation, public procurement, and the opening up of infrastructure". Under Trump and his predecessor Joe Biden, Washington has banned or restricted exports to China of advanced processors which are known for helping develop high-end AI models. The Trump administration has imposed new licensing requirements to export to China some chips used in AI, which US firms Nvidia and AMD have said will hit them hard. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang visited Beijing this month and said he was "willing to continue to plough deeply into the Chinese market and play a positive role in promoting US-China trade cooperation", Xinhua reported. Washington's controls are officially imposed in order to prevent China developing military technologies, but they also allow the United States to maintain its competitive edge. China's AI ambitions have prompted concern in numerous countries worried about the handling of personal data, particularly the possibility that such information could be transferred to Chinese authorities.

India urging firms to acquire overseas iron ore, coking coal assets, official says

India is encouraging companies to acquire iron ore , coking coal , and other key raw material assets overseas, Steel Secretary Sandeep Poundrik said on Saturday, as the country ramps up its steelmaking capacity to meet rising demand. #Pahalgam Terrorist Attack India pulled the plug on IWT when Pakistanis are fighting over water What makes this India-Pakistan standoff more dangerous than past ones The problem of Pakistan couldn't have come at a worse time for D-St "We are encouraging our companies to acquire assets abroad, right from iron ore to coking coal to even limestone and dolomite," Poundrik said at an industry event in Mumbai. "Raw material securitisation is the most important aspect of steelmaking." India, the world's second-largest producer of crude steel, aims to boost its overall steelmaking capacity to 300 million tons by 2030, up from about 200 million tons currently. To support this expansion, coking coal imports are projected to rise to 160 million tons by 2030 from around 58 million tons now, Poundrik had projected on Friday. Despite an uptick in steel output, India's coking coal imports dipped 0.7% in the fiscal year ended in March due to lower shipments from Australia and the United States, said commodities consultancy BigMint. Live Events India relies on imports to meet 85% of its coking coal needs, with Australia supplying more than half of those shipments. In a bid to diversify supply, India has also been exploring partnerships with Mongolia. However, logistical challenges remain in sourcing material from the landlocked country, Poundrik noted. State-run miner NMDC is exploring coking coal assets, in Indonesia and Australia, Chairman Amitava Mukherjee said on Thursday.

India is one of the best countries in world in terms of utilising youth energy: Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu on Saturday attended the Rozgar Mela in Visakhapatnam and said that India is one of the best countries in the world in terms of utilising the youth energy. #Pahalgam Terrorist Attack India pulled the plug on IWT when Pakistanis are fighting over water What makes this India-Pakistan standoff more dangerous than past ones The problem of Pakistan couldn't have come at a worse time for D-St Speaking to ANI, the Union Minister expressed his happiness over attending the Rozgar Mela in Visakhapatnam and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the initiative. "Today, I am delighted to be participating in the Rozgar Mela, organised by the central government, in Visakhapatnam. Almost 250 people have taken an appointment letter in different central government departments, and this is a great initiative by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who wants to inspire the youth to connect to the Viksit Bharat 2047 goal," Naidu said. 5 5 Next Stay Playback speed 1x Normal Back 0.25x 0.5x 1x Normal 1.5x 2x 5 5 / Skip Ads by by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Thousands Are Saving Money Using This Wall Plug elecTrick - Save upto 80% on Power Bill Click Here He further said that earlier, the whole process of recruiting used to take four years but now under the leadership of PM Modi it has come down to within 1 year. "Today, India is one of the best countries in the world in terms of utilising the youth energy. In the process of nation-building and contributing to society, India has great potential among its youth. By aligning the youth with the common goal of nation-building and serving the nation with passion and contribution, India can further enhance its potential. Additionally, we combine our resources to achieve the progress we always plan to make. I'm also seeing the energy from the youngsters. They're very excited to step into these new jobs, especially since it has been their dream, and most of the people in the centre from Visakhapatnam come from very rural backgrounds, very lower middle class backgrounds, where there is a lot of struggle for them to achieve this kind of position in the central government. But they are very excited. They are very aspirational, and the whole process of Rozgar Mela, what used to take like 4 years to get a job in the central government right from the initial stages of examination to getting the appointment letter with the direction and the guidance of our honourable Prime Minister, it has come down to within 1 year," he added. Live Events The Union Minister stated that this is a collective effort in nation-building, and each and every one must give their 100 per cent best efforts. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed over 51,000 appointment letters to youth appointed in various government departments under Rozgar Mela. Prime Minister Modi emphasised the role of the youth in strengthening the country's economic system and internal security, developing modern infrastructure, and enhancing the lives of labourers. He urged the newly appointed youth to work with honesty to support India's progress towards becoming a "Viksit Bharat". "Today, letters of permanent government jobs have been given to more than 51 thousand youth in various departments of the Central Government. Today, new responsibilities for our youth have begun in different departments of the Government of India. Your responsibility is to strengthen the country's economic system; your responsibility is to strengthen the country's internal security; your responsibility is to build modern infrastructure in the country; your responsibility is to bring fundamental changes in the lives of labourers. The more honest you are with your work, the more it will support India's journey of Viksit Bharat," PM Modi said. Rozgar Mela is a step to provide meaningful opportunities to the youth for their participation in nation-building and self-empowerment.
