Even after re-signing D.J. Jones, Broncos could target DL in NFL draft
Even after re-signing D.J. Jones, Broncos could target DL in NFL draft After spending the last three years with the Denver Broncos, defensive lineman D.J. Jones was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in March. The Broncos did not let Jones test the open market as the team gave him a three-year, $39 million extension on the eve of the NFL's free agency negotiating window. Speaking at the NFL's Annual League Meeting last month, Denver coach Sean Payton spoke about the importance of keeping the defensive line (and offensive line) together. 'We felt that it was one of the strengths of our team, not only in defensive line but offensive line," Payton said on March 31. "When we went through the whole process of grading the roster, those two position groups probably graded out the most consistent. I think your team has to be built that way. "We'll continue to look, even in the draft. Draft on a string — there's nothing wrong with that. But I think D.J. was an important part of the equation relative to his experience and the snaps he gave us, not only defending the passing game but, man, he played the run well.' Jones has totaled 122 tackles, 11 quarterback hits, nine pass breakups, five sacks, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries in 48 games (all starts) in Denver. Broncos general manager George Paton said building up the defensive and offensive lines has been a priority for the front office. 'I think you have to," Paton said on March 31. "That was a big [reason] why we brought D.J. back. We think that D.J. is one of the better noses in the league, so why wouldn't we bring him back and just keep building on his strength? I think that's how you get better. "We had a really good defense last year. How can we take it to the next level? So that's why it was important for us to strength at all three levels. D.J., Greenlaw, [Talanoa] Hufanga down the middle of the defense. So it's really important to build on a strength when you have them.' As Payton noted, Denver could continue building on their strength by selecting another defensive lineman in the draft. Some of the top linemen who could be available when the Broncos pick at No. 20 in the first round are Oregon's Derrick Harmon, Mississippi's Walter Nolen and Michigan's Kenneth Grant. The 2025 NFL draft will be held in Wisconsin from April 24-26. The Broncos currently hold seven picks, but they could acquire more selections through trades. These 25 celebrities are Broncos fans

Broncos free agency updates going into Day 1
Broncos free agency updates going into Day 1 The NFL's free agency negotiating window opens today and the Denver Broncos have already been active. Teams cannot begin negotiating with pending free agents from other clubs until 10 a.m. MT, but they are allowed to give extensions to in-house free agents before then. The Broncos did just that with a trio of players on Sunday night. Denver gave three-year contracts to defensive lineman D.J. Jones and long snapper Mitchell Fraboni and a two-year deal to backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham. More moves are on the way. The Broncos missed out on two notable linebackers on Sunday when Nick Bolton and Jamien Sherwood re-signed with the Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets, respectively. Denver apparently had more interest in Sherwood than Bolton, according to KUSA-TV's Mike Klis. Two notable ILBs still available are Robert Spillane and Dre Greenlaw, and Klis believes the team will have more interest in Spillane due to Greenlaw's injury history. Meanwhile, Klis notes the Broncos are also expected to add a tight end tight end (Juwan Johnson is a name to watch) and a safety (here's a list of candidates). Before the three in-house deals, Denver had about $40.5 million in available salary cap space. Stay tuned. We will track all of the team's upcoming moves on Broncos Wire. Jones to a three-year deal worth $39 million, according to multiple reports. Jones earning an average of $13 million per season was first reported by ESPN's Jeremy Fowler on Sunday night. The Denver Post's Parker Gabriel later reported it was a three-year deal, and ESPN's Adam Schefter added on Monday morning that it's $39 million contract with $26 million fully guaranteed.
