Oregon baseball rises into the Top 5 in latest USA TODAY/Coaches poll
Oregon baseball rises into the Top 5 in latest USA TODAY/Coaches poll The final weekend of the regular season couldn't have been any better for the Oregon baseball team. The Ducks had to sweep the Iowa Hawkeyes in Iowa City to have a chance to win the Big Ten regular-season title, and the polls are rewarding them for their success. In the latest USA TODAY/Coaches poll, Oregon moved up two spots to No. 5. The Ducks are ranked even higher in the poll, as they are No. 4 in the country. Oregon's RPI has dramatically improved over the course of its current 10-game winning streak as well. The Ducks were in the mid-40s before the streak, and now their RPI stands at No. 12. So what does this all mean? It means a few things. Oregon is the No. 1 in the Big Ten Conference tournament in Omaha this week. The Ducks open with Michigan State on May 23. It also means that with a decent showing in the conference tourney, Oregon is almost guaranteed to host a regional in the NCAA tournament. If the Ducks advance to the semifinals, there's a good chance Oregon will be one of the eight national seeds in the Big Dance and potentially host a Super Regional. In short, everything is going the Ducks' way at the moment, and they have their own destiny in their hands. They just have to keep winning.

Where Oregon Baseball ranks in latest D1Baseball poll after weekend sweep of Washington
Where Oregon Baseball ranks in latest D1Baseball poll after weekend sweep of Washington Oregon baseball is playing its best at the perfect time. After going 5-0 with a sweep of St. Mary's and Washington, both at PK Park, the Ducks are ranked fifth in the latest poll. They're still seventh, however, in the latest USA TODAY/Coaches poll. Oregon has put itself in contention for a Big Ten title and possibly hosting at least a regional and perhaps a Super Regional. But the Ducks will have a three-game series with first-place Iowa before the conference tournament next week in Omaha. The Ducks are 19-8 in Big Ten play, two games behind the and 38-13 overall. However, UCLA is 20-7 in conference action and in a better situation to win the regular season championship. The Bruins host Northwestern this weekend. It was a fun time at PK Park this past weekend as a full capacity saw Oregon sweep its rival, Washington. The series was close and could have gone either way, but the Ducks came out on top in all three games, including a close 5-3 win over the Huskies on Sunday. Oregon baseball continues to climb up the rankings as wins pile up
It seems as if the college baseball season just began. But in actuality, the end of the regular season is just two weeks away, and the Ducks are in a prime position where the postseason is concerned. Barring a complete collapse, Oregon should host a regional in the NCAA tournament and have a legitimate shot at hosting a Super Regional at PK Park in June. To host those, the Ducks have to be a Top 16 team to host a regional and a Top 8 team to host a Super Regional. According to the most recent polls, Oregon will do just that. The Ducks are ranked fifth in the poll, up one spot from last week, and No. 7 in the USA TODAY/Coaches poll, which is up three spots from the previous poll. Oregon had a good week, going 3-1 with a win over No. 10 Oregon State and winning two of three at Michigan State despite dropping the Friday game. The Ducks have a full slate of games this week at PK Park as they host St. Mary's for two (Tuesday and Wednesday) before hosting a Big Ten weekend series with Washington. These are the last five regular-season games at home for Oregon. Need a break? Duck baseball moves up in polls after series win over UCLA
Duck baseball moves up in polls after series win over UCLA That series loss at Ohio State seems like a long time ago. Oregon finished the week with a 3-1 record with a win over Georgetown and then the Ducks came back to PK Park and defeated UCLA two games out of three to win the series. As a result, Oregon moved up in the various national polls. The team moved to No. 13 in the land in the and the Perfect Game polls. That's three spots up in the D1baseball poll and up four spots in Perfect Game. In the latest version of the USA TODAY/Coaches poll, they weren't as generous. The Ducks moved up just wo spots to No. 16, still one below the Bruins at No. 15. Oregon will receive plenty of chances too improve its standings in the polls this week, however, as the Ducks host Oregon State at PK Park. The Beavers are ranked in the Top 5 in all of the polls with a 30-7 overall record. The Ducks improved their RPI rank, moving up 12 spots to No. 45. There's still a lot of baseball left to be played, but Oregon is certainly in position to host a regional in the NCAA tournament. With a 27-11 record, Oregon is still one of the top teams on the West Coast. Now hosting a possible Super Regional is a different story. The Ducks still have a lot of work to do there. In order to host a Super Regional, you have to be one of the Top 8 teams playing, but with the Beavers (RPI) and the Big Ten first-place holders, the Iowa Hawkeyes, still on the schedule, hosting a Super Regional isn't entirely out of the question yet.
