AVATAR Is Replacing The MONSTERS, INC. Attraction at Disney's California Adventure — GeekTyrant

The Disneyland Resort is making a major change as they just confirmed that Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! at California Adventure is set to close in early 2026 to make way for a new Avatar 'experience.' This change has been brewing since Disney's D23 Expo last year, where they revealed plans to bring Avatar and Coco to Disneyland Resort. What they didn't say then was which parts of the park would be sacrificed to make it happen. Now we know that Monsters, Inc. is on the chopping block, and Avatar will take over most of the Hollywood Backlot area. So, if you're feeling nostalgic, now's the time to get that last ride in. Construction on the Coco ride will kick off this fall and won't require demolishing any existing attractions. It'll be tucked near Paradise Gardens Park and Pixar Pier, right at home among the rest of the Pixar lineup. As for Avatar , it's still in what Disney calls 'the early stages of development,' but we do know it's big enough to push out an entire land. For fans worried this marks the end of Monsters, Inc. in Disney parks, don't sweat it. Over in Florida, the Pixar franchise is getting a serious glow-up. A full Monsters, Inc. land is coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios in Orlando, complete with a brand-new roller coaster. So while the ride in Anaheim is being retired, the monsters are just relocating. Via: Disney Parks Blog

Disney Pulls Back the Curtain on Its New ‘Cars' Land

Piston Peak National Park is coming to Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. If all goes according to plan, when the new Cars-inspired land opens at the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World, you won't even see it. Back at the D23 Expo last year, Disney announced it was adding a Cars-themed land to its signature Orlando park, and now, the company has revealed a ton of additional info. There's a map of what it'll look like, an explanation of its theming, and the news that even though it'll be sitting in the middle of the theme park, it'll be carefully designed to make sure it doesn't stand out. Oh, and it's got a name too. The land is called Piston Peak National Park (though fans are sure to just call it 'Piston Peak' or 'Cars Land'), and though it's fully set in the world of Cars, it's being conceived as a national park in that franchise. The idea being, a national park—even if it's filled with sentient talking vehicles—is a more seamless fit into the land's location, which is near Liberty Square and Frontierland. You can see the full map above, though it's just an artist's interpretation and won't be exactly that. So, unlike the decidedly city-based theming in Radiator Springs, Disney's first Cars land at California Adventure, here everything will be much more natural. More earthy. Imagineers are even calling it 'Parkitecture.' That's a key too because, as Disney explains in its news release, 'From the outside, trees will provide a natural barrier between the off-road rally and other parts of Frontierland and Liberty Square. Rugged mountains with dramatic peaks will be nestled along a calming waterway across from Grizzly Hall and soaring geysers from the famed Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will stretch into the trails of our off-road rally.' Previously, it was announced that the land now known as Piston Peak will have two rides in it, one geared at families and another, more exciting 'race rally through the mountains' which will see your vehicle 'climb mountain trails, dodge geysers and… splash through mudholes.' To make this land into a reality, the park will close Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat beginning July 7. Plus, as we already knew, on the other side of Big Thunder, a land focused exclusively on Disney Villains is coming too. But no word on specifics for that quite yet. For more on Piston Peak check out the new post on the Disney Parks Blog and revisit that initial news right here.

Rachel Zegler refused Disney's request to delete pro-Palestine tweet, netizens praise ‘incredibly principled and authentic' actress

Rachel Zegler is receiving a wave of public support after reports confirmed she refused to delete a tweet in support of Palestine, despite facing pressure from Disney executives. The post, published in August 2024, coincided with the release of the Snow White trailer and ended with the statement: 'and always remember, free Palestine.' and always remember, free palestine. — rachel zegler (she/her/hers) (@rachelzegler) August 12, 2024 The tweet reportedly sparked internal backlash at Disney, leading to high-level interventions. Variety reports that producer Marc Platt flew to New York to personally urge Zegler to delete the tweet, but the 23-year-old actress stood firm, letting the message remain online. The tweet has since amassed over 10 million views. Public reaction to Zegler's decision has been overwhelmingly supportive, with many applauding her courage. One user wrote, 'Rachel Zegler had one of the most powerful producers in Hollywood fly out specifically to ask her to delete a tweet in support of Palestine and she refused. More backbone and integrity at 23 than 99% of powerful people in this country.' Another said, 'LOL at that Rachel Zegler hit piece backfiring and showing she is incredibly principled and authentic. It's in fact the industry that needs to change.' Upon her casting as Snow White, some conservative groups reacted negatively due to her Latina heritage, arguing that the role should remain true to its European origins. Additionally, Zegler's comments about the original 1937 film sparked debate. At Disney's D23 Expo in 2022, she remarked, 'The original cartoon came out in 1937 and very evidently so. There's a big focus on her love story with the guy who literally stalks her. Weird, weird.' These statements led to accusations of her being dismissive of the classic tale and its characters. While Snow White has faced box office challenges and broader controversies, Zegler's principled stance has redefined her public image, transforming criticism into commendation.

Rachel Zegler Cries in Emotional Speech, Says She Loves 'Everybody' at 'Snow White' Screening amid Controversies

Rachel Zegler is showing gratitude for her Snow White role. Ahead of a recent early screening of the live-action Snow White remake, Zegler surprised fans when she appeared and gave an emotional speech about what playing the Disney princess has meant to her. "This is a movie that is so close to my heart. I auditioned for this movie when I was 19 years old and I am about to turn 24," Zegler said, in video shared by Disney. "So it's a really big chunk of my life, and about five of the seven years of my career, which is crazy. I love everybody in this movie so dearly." Zegler reflected on her journey playing the titular character, who first appeared in 1937's animated Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, sharing that seeing the movie come to life has been "emotional" for her. "Coming to the end of this road of this release feels really crazy because when you spend so much time with something, it becomes such a big part of you and a big part of your heart. Snow White has really been that way for me and to see this is really emotional for me. So I'm going to try not do that," Zegler said, her voice cracking a little. "I love her and I am so glad to see that so many of you love her as well," Zegler continued. "Her superpower is her heart. It's nothing supernatural. It's something that all of us have. Deep within us, there is an inherit good and belief in the kindness of humanity." "I hope that you walk away from this film understanding what the true meaning of fair is. I really hope that for the world as well. Thank you so much for allowing me to be your Snow White. It means the world to me." Zegler's speech comes amid tensions plaguing Disney's live-action remake ahead of its March 21 release, which has extended to both the West Side Story actress and her costar Gal Gadot, who plays the Evil Queen. A source told PEOPLE that Gadot and Zegler have "nothing in common" due to their age difference and 'on top of that, their political views differ, adding to the tension." Zegler and Gadot have appeared at multiple events in the past to promote their long-delayed film, including at Disney's D23 Expo in 2022 and at the recent Academy Awards, where they presented the Best Visual Effects category together. They posed together at the film's Los Angeles premiere on Saturday, March 15. After her casting announcement in 2021, Zegler faced racist backlash from social media users over her being of Latinx background and playing the Disney princess. (Zegler is of Colombian and Polish descent.) Zegler also made headlines when she said in interviews that the new movie would modernize Snow White and that the original was 'dated.' While speaking with Vogue Mexico, Zegler addressed negative reactions over her casting as well as past statements she's made about the original animation, saying audiences were being protective over the famous princess. 'I interpret people's feelings about this film as their passion for her and what an honor to be a part of something that people are so passionate about,' Zegler said. 'We are not always going to have the same feelings as everyone around us and all that we can do is do our best." (Zegler's interview was conducted in Spanish. Quotes were independently translated from Spanish to English by PEOPLE.) Snow White is in theaters March 21. Read the original article on People
