Travel Nurses, Inc. Announces First Quarter Daisy Award Honoree
Travel Nurses, Inc. announced Becky Walker, RN from Carrollton, Mississippi, as their first quarter DAISY Award honoree for 2025. GERMANTOWN, TENNESSEE / / March 13, 2025 / Travel Nurses, Inc. announced their first quarter DAISY Award recipient for 2025. Becky Walker, RN from Carrollton, Mississippi was presented with this prestigious award during a ceremony with her travel partner and the Travel Nurses, Inc. staff. The DAISY Award is a prestigious international program that honors nurses for their exceptional clinical expertise and compassionate care. DAISY, which stands for "Diseases Attacking the Immune System," was created to recognize the profound impact nurses have on patients and their families. Recipients are celebrated for their dedication to patient advocacy, outstanding clinical skills, compassionate bedside manner, teamwork and leadership. This award is especially meaningful for a travel nurse, as it is typically given to nurses with an established presence at a facility. Since travelers work on short-term assignments and frequently move between locations, being recognized with a DAISY Award is a rare and exceptional honor. "Becky is a faithful, dedicated nurse who puts her patients first and deserves this recognition," said Marissa Morgan, Walker's recruitment specialist. "She is a true representation of what it means to be a DAISY recipient." Travel Nurses, Inc. was the first healthcare travel agency to partner with the DAISY Foundation to begin presenting awards to travelers. The agency looks forward to presenting the award to more outstanding nurses they staff in the future. First DAISY Awards given out at UHC
BRIDGEPORT, (WBOY) — For the first time, United Hospital Center (UHC) in Bridgeport presented DAISY awards to three nurses on Thursday. The DAISY Foundation is a non-profit organization established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died from complications of auto-immune disease, Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). The DAISY award stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System, and it was inspired by the care Barnes and his family received from nurses. UHC will now present the DAISY award four times a year, with this first round receiving 59 nominations from patients who wished to show gratitude to their nurse. Honorees were chosen by the Reward and Recognition Committee from the pool of patient nominations that were narrowed down through a blinded process, using a numerical algorithm to rate the nominations based on things like 'depth of nomination,' according to Vice President of Nursing Stephanie Smart. Long-time nurse and OB Clinical Educator, Leigh Belin was one of the three nurses to receive the awards, but all of them were from the obstetrics department. Emergency personnel undergo Crisis Intervention Training in Weston 'You know, we get food all the time and that's great, but to have a hand-written note or for someone to say 'You made a difference, you got me through it, I'll never forget you.' That's the reward you're looking for at the end of the day,' Belin said. On top of a daisy flower pin, a certificate and flowers, honorees were also given a sculpture called 'A Healer's Touch' that was hand-carved by artists from the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe. 'My favorite part of my job is that I love my job and it's really rewarding to see that other people like me doing my job as well, you know, and that they think that I'm doing a good job at it,' Three-year Registered Nurse Vaughn Vincent said. Cinnamon rolls are a must at DAISY Award ceremonies, as while he was ill Barnes would not crave much food except for one day with cinnamon rolls and then requested cinnamon rolls were given to all the nurses in his hospital unit. If there's a nurse you have in mind to nominate, you can do so here. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
