Hampden County Sheriff alerts public to new dangerous phone scheme

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – In Hampden County, Sheriff Nick Cocchi is warning residents about a dangerous new phone scam. The scam is where callers falsely claim the person is a witness in a murder case and has failed to appear in court. The scammer pressures the individual to pay a fine or submit to a court-ordered DNA swab to avoid arrest or further legal trouble. Cocchi says if someone were a witness to a serious crime, they would have been contacted by the DA's office, not by someone over the phone. Scammers have also claimed you missed jury duty, owe legal fees, or have an active warrant. Man pleads guilty to sex trafficking vulnerable woman, controlling her with drugs

A depraved man pleaded guilty to sex trafficking a vulnerable woman for nearly a year, using her addiction to keep her under his control, the Manhattan District Attorney's office announced. Between Jan. 1 and Oct. 31, 2025, Winston Williams forced the victim into prostitution by leading her to believe she was continually in his 'debt' for supplying her with drugs — and telling her he would subtract the cost from money she made turning tricks, according to court documents. 'Winston Williams kept a woman trapped in a cycle of drugs and debts while lining his pockets,' Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg said in a statement. 'Traffickers target vulnerable New Yorkers all too often, as this defendant did by specifically seeking out someone with substance use disorders,' he added. In addition to forcing the victim into sex work to pay down phony 'debts,' Williams, 42, used other methods to control his victim, including physically abusing her, controlling her access to money and food, and taking away her phone and government identification, the DA's office said. Winston trafficked the victim across the city, forcing her to have sex for money in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. He pleaded guilty on Tuesday in New York State Supreme Court to sex trafficking and stalking. He's expected to be sentenced June 10 to between 5-15 years in state prison.

Man who crashed car through Jennifer Aniston's gate facing felony stalking and vandalism charges

The Los Angeles District Attorney's office announced Wednesday that they have filed felony charges against a man who drove a car through the front gate of a home in Bel Air, California that online records indicate belongs to Jennifer Aniston. Jimmy Wayne Carwyle, who the DA's office identified as the man involved in the incident in a news release, has been charged with one count of felony stalking and one count of felony vandalism with an 'aggravating circumstance of the threat of great bodily harm.' Carwyle is set to be arraigned in a Los Angeles courthouse on Thursday and, according to the DA's office, prosecutors plan to request his bail be set at $150,000. If convicted, he faces three years in state prison. He is accused of 'repeatedly harassing the victim' – who a law enforcement source familiar with the investigation confirmed to CNN is the 'Friends' actress – between 2023 and 2025 by 'sending her unwanted social media, voicemail, and email messages.' On Tuesday, Carwyle 'ran his vehicle through the gate' of the residence located in Bel Air, an affluent Los Angeles neighborhood, at around 12:20 p.m. PT, officer Jeff Lee, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department, told CNN at the time. A security guard on the premises 'held the suspect' until LAPD officers arrived and Carwyle was taken into custody without incident, Lee said. Officer David Cuellar later told CNN that the home's owner 'was at home at the time of the incident.' The DA's office said on Wednesday that the crash caused 'substantial damage' to the gate. Attorney information for Carwyle is not listed in Los Angeles County criminal court online records. CNN has reached out to Aniston's representative for comment. 'Stalking is a crime that can quickly escalate from harassment to dangerous, violent actions, threatening the safety of victims and our communities,' District Attorney Nathan Hochman said in a statement on Wednesday. 'My office is committed to aggressively prosecuting those who stalk and terrorize others, ensuring they are held accountable.' CNN's Josh Campbell and Cindy Von Quednow contributed to this report.
