Code Red air quality alert announced for Polk Co. due to wildfires
POLK COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) – The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality's Division of Air Quality (DAQ) has issued a Code Red air quality alert for Polk County due to the ongoing wildfires.
A Code Red air quality alert states that the air is unhealthy for anyone if exposed, regardless of medical conditions. DAQ urges all residents of Polk County to consider limiting any prolonged or heavy exertion outdoors.
Additionally, Rutherford County is under a Code Orange air quality action day alert, which signifies air quality that is unhealthy for sensitive groups.
The alerts will remain in effect until midnight Saturday night. DAQ will continue to issue forecasts for air quality as the wildfires continue.
