Strong thunderstorms tonight, beautiful stretch of weather arrives Friday afternoon
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH for Bland and Tazewell counties until midnight. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and hail, along with torrential downpours.
Tonight features scattered showers and thunderstorms, which will be likely through the evening before midnight with a cold front crossing. The strongest thunderstorms will provide the risk for hail with cold air above us to support hailstone growth, as well as damaging wind gusts with dry mid-levels. The best chance for severe weather will be the farther south you are. Scattered showers and storms will be numerous in coverage this evening but only a couple are expected to be severe. Thunderstorms will quickly decrease in activity after midnight, with a few lingering showers toward dawn with lows in the low 50s.
Friday sees that front and associated low pressure exit off to our northeast into New England. After a few morning sprinkles, we will see the sunshine return by the late afternoon in what will be the beginning of a fantastic Mother's Day weekend. Behind the front, our Friday will be cooler with highs in the low 60s.
Saturday will provide plenty of sunshine with high pressure in control. High pressure will be to our north, meaning we will have a light northerly breeze keeping us cool with highs in the mid 60s.
Mother's Day will be beautiful! High pressure continues to provide plenty of sunshine and temperatures will nudge their way up a bit more into the low to mid 70s. The weather will be great to take mom out somewhere and show appreciation!
