Jackson-Reed wins a dramatic, multi-day DCIAA softball championship
In recent years, Jackson-Reed's journey to a D.C. Interscholastic Athletic Association softball title has been smooth sailing. The Tigers have worn the city crown for over a decade — Coach David Thompson's team entered this spring having won the conference for 11 straight seasons.
But this year's title defense was anything but comfortable. It took 20 runs, two fields and several days, but the Tigers prevailed in a wild 20-19 win over School Without Walls to claim their 12th-consecutive city title. The game, which started Monday at Nationals Youth Academy, was postponed due to lightning with Jackson-Reed at the plate with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, the game knotted at 19 and the bases loaded.
