Warren taking applications for veteran banners to be displayed downtown
WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) — Warren is launching a new program aimed at publicly honoring veterans with strong ties to the city. The 'Warren Honors: Veterans Banner Program' was created through a partnership with the city, Trumbull County Historical Society and Trumbull County Veterans Service Commission. 'These banners are a reminder and a tribute to the brave men and brave women who have served our nation in dedication and sacrifice,' said Michael O'Brien, councilman at large. The banners will include a picture of the veteran, plus their branch and dates of service. They'll be displayed in downtown Warren between Memorial Day and Veterans Day in both 2025 and 2026. After the second season, they'll be returned to the applicant. 'These aren't just banners. They're testaments. They are family photo albums raised high in the sky. They are reminders that service doesn't end when the uniform comes off,' Mayor Doug Franklin said. The cost of a banner, which is double-sided and 18″ x 48″, is $200. Banner location and placement requests cannot be accommodated. To be eligible for a banner, the applicant must: Reside in or have resided in the City of Warren corporation limits at some point or have a strong Warren connection (such as having worked in Warren). Have served in any of the six branches of military service (Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, Navy or Space Force), including the Reserve and National Guard. The application process includes providing the following military identification documents: Military identification document and/or copy of DD-214. High-resolution photograph (5×7 or 8×10) of the military service member. Photos will be returned by mail to the applicant. Resources available for patients losing Anchor Medical providers
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Anchor Medical Associates is trying to help the roughly 25,000 patients who will be left without a doctor when the primary care provider closes its doors for good at the end of June. Anchor Medical said local practices willing to accept new patients have been reaching out in the wake of the announced closure. Anchor Medical has posted a list of providers open to accepting new patients on its website. 'We recommend first contacting your insurance member service's department for a listing of providers within your plan's network that are accepting new patients,' Anchor Medical noted above the list. Anchor Medical Patient Resources Patients are also urged to get a copy of their medical records immediately. The list of care providers will be updated regularly. From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on April 30, the Veterans Affairs (VA) Providence Healthcare System will also be hosting a special enrollment session at 830 Chalkstone Ave. in Providence for any veterans who are impacted by Anchor Medical's closure. The VA said its Providence enrollment team will be onsite, along with representatives from the Veterans Benefits Administration who can help with filing disability claims. 'Every Veteran deserves timely access to high-quality care,' VA Providence Director Lawrence Connell said in a press release. 'We want those affected by this closure to know VA Providence is here for them with compassionate providers, expert support, and a commitment to service.'
