CBSE to organize Bhartiya Bhasha Summer Camps across its schools

Nagpur: Bharatiya Bhasha Summer Camps (BBSC) 2025 will be organised by CBSE in its affiliated schools nationwide, as part of efforts aligned with National Education Policy (NEP) 2020's vision of multilingualism and cultural understanding by enabling students to learn an additional Indian language. By May 20, NCERT will release standardised guidance materials and a condensed course covering 22 scheduled languages online. Learning will be supported by audio-visual content from NCERT, SCERT, and DIETs, with potential broadcasts on PM-e-Vidya channels. The camps will operate during summer holidays, with flexible scheduling based on local academic terms. NCERT will provide technical support and learning materials as the nodal organisation, while State Education Departments, State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERTs), and District Institute of Education and Training (DIETs) will manage state and district-level coordination. These offline camps will run for a total duration of 28 hours, accommodating 75-100 students per school, featuring activities like introductions, vocabulary development, practical conversations, cultural learning, and confidence-building sessions. Central panel seeks answers on over 800 teacher vacancies

Panaji: The Union education ministry's project approval board (PAB), while carrying out an annual review of the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan implementation in Goa, has pointed to over 800 teacher vacancies waiting to be filled at all levels in the state, besides 83% vacancies within the State Council for Education Research and Training (SCERT).'At the state-sanctioned level, 306 positions at the elementary level, 311 at the secondary level, and 231 at the senior secondary level remain vacant. The state was urged to take necessary steps to fill all vacant positions across levels by Dec 31, 2025,' the PAB also said that a significant proportion of positions in SCERTs and DIETs (district teacher education institute) are currently filled on deputation or contractual basis — 83.3% posts in SCERT (10 of 12 posts) and 92% in DIETs (23 of 25 posts).'Considering the pivotal role of these institutions in teacher empowerment and educational reforms, it was advised that all such positions should be filled on a regular basis, on priority, by June 30, 2025, to ensure greater institutional accountability and a stronger sense of professional responsibility,' the PAB has also said that the progress of the teacher training institute's upgrade into a Centre's centre of excellence is unusually slow in the state.'Under the DIETs of Excellence scheme approved in PAB 2021-24, DIET, North Goa was sanctioned in the first phase. However, slow progress was observed in the state. The state was urged to closely monitor the implementation and ensure timely completion of activities sanctioned under the scheme,' PAB said.

Rs 15cr central fund to develop district edu training centre

(AI image) Panaji: The District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) at Porvorim was one among 619 govt-run teacher training institutes across the country in 2023 to be sanctioned central funds of Rs 15 crore for their development into centres of excellence. With the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the DIET is set to see a complete role shift. A three-storey building will be constructed with the central funding at the same location at Porvorim, and the institute will now have a primary school attached to it. There was no school attached to the DIET until now. 'DIETs of excellence are required to carry out research studies, pilot projects, and identify effective teaching methodologies, educational practices, and strategies for addressing local educational challenges. All this is possible when a school is attached to the institute. The findings from these studies will contribute to evidence-based decision making and overall improvement in the education system in the state,' said an official. The new building will have infrastructure like smart classrooms, different labs, digitised library, and digital content. It will provide technical tools to promote teachers' professional development,' said the official. With the recommendations of NEP, the role of DIETs is critical in providing quality pre-service and in-service teacher training to student trainees and in-service teachers. It is also expected that DIET's role will be expanded to cover secondary schools as well, instead of only elementary schools at present. This is because NEP 2020 emphasises that all stages of school education will require the highest-quality teachers, and no stage will be considered more important than any other. 'At present, several vacancies are unfilled at the DIET. Nationally, 52% of academic positions in DIETs are vacant. A main requirement for DIETs of excellence is that they fill up all their academic and other posts. It was noticed that DIETs struggle with insufficient funding, which limits their ability to upgrade infrastructure. This leads to a scarcity of teaching aids, learning materials, laboratory instruments and equipment. For this reason, the centre is funding the DIETs of excellence,' the official said.
