Armed with self-assessment, govt primary schools record 180% rise in A, A+ schools in Gunotsav

Schools with A grade rose from 1616 to 4442 recording 174% rise. Cumulatively, the number of primary schools with A+ and A grades recorded a 180% rose. Officials said that indicates improvement in educational quality at fundamental levels. However, the number of schools in A+ category at secondary and higher secondary levels dropped from 304 last year to 141 year while number of schools in A category dropped from 942 to 14442 indicating inconsistencies in higher education standards. Sources following the progress of schools in the state said that implementation of 20% weightage for self-assessment, introduced as part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 accreditation process, may have contributed significantly to primary schools' improved performance. This self-evaluation system enabled schools to better prepare and achieve superior results. "With schools likely to give full marks to themsleves as part of self evaluation, it may helped many schools transcend into the A and A+ categories," a senior member of the state education fraternity said. The Vidya Samiksha Kendra's 'Gyan Pravah' chatbot facilitated the distribution of results, providing access to schools and the public through DISE (District Information System for Education) code. The accreditation outcomes were announced on Wednesday via the 'Gyan Pravah' chatbot. Educational institutions can retrieve their accreditation assessments by entering their DISE code. The system has been made accessible to the general public, enabling anyone to view a school's assessment. This development aims to foster community participation in improving education while strengthening accountability within the schooling framework. The evaluation of over 40,000 schools indicates a systematic progression towards achieving academic excellence through methodical assessment, openness, and community involvement, the govt stated. The state govt's Gunotsav 2.0 initiative, which commenced in 2019-20, aims to assess and improve educational standards across govt and grant-in-aid schools.
