Muscat – The National Museum, in partnership with the Italian Embassy in Muscat, has inaugurated the exhibition 'DIVA! Italian Glamour in Fashion Jewellery', showcasing the elegance and artistry of Italian jewellery design. The exhibition, which opened under the patronage of Her Highness Sayyidah Dr Mona bint Fahd al-Said, Assistant Vice Chancellor for International Cooperation at Sultan Qaboos University and Vice Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the National Museum, will run until March 09, 2025.
Curated by Professor Alba Cappellieri, a distinguished jewellery design professor at Politecnico di Milano and Director of the Vicenza Museum of Jewellery, the exhibition features over 100 exquisite pieces that trace the evolution of Italian jewellery from the 1950s to the present. It highlights the fusion of tradition and modernity, reflecting aesthetic and cultural transformations through the decades.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, H E Pierluigi D'Elia, Ambassador of Italy to Oman, emphasised the exhibition's role in celebrating Italian craftsmanship and creativity. 'This exhibition underscores how art transcends borders, creating a global language of culture, harmony, and beauty. We are honoured to bring this showcase to Oman and hope it fosters a deeper appreciation of Italian jewellery design.'
H E Jamal bin Hassan al-Moosawi, Secretary-General of the National Museum, stressed the significance of hosting DIVA! in Oman. 'This exhibition is a testament to Italy's legacy in jewellery-making and provides an invaluable opportunity for Omani artisans and visitors to engage with its artistic evolution. We look forward to further collaborations that strengthen cultural dialogue between our nations.'
Professor Cappellieri described DIVA! as a journey into the heart of Italian creativity, honouring the artisans and designers who have shaped the industry. She highlighted how modern jewellery is no longer merely an accessory but a reflection of cultural identity and artistic expression.
Sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the exhibition serves as a bridge of cultural exchange between Italy and Oman, reinforcing the friendship and artistic dialogue between the two countries. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the rich history and craftsmanship of Italian fashion jewellery, renowned as a hallmark of global creativity.
