Man gets 10-year jail term for raping 51-year-old woman

Rourkela: A sessions court in Sundargarh on Saturday sentenced a 31-year-old man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a 51-year-old married woman in 2021.
Sessions judge Sikharani Rath also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict.
If he fails to pay the fine, he will have to serve an additional three months in jail.
Public prosecutor D K Murmu said that on Jan 21, 2021, the woman was returning home after finding a grocery shop closed when the convict, then aged 27, intercepted her around 8 pm. He dragged her to a roadside field and sexually assaulted her.
Passersby rushed to the spot after hearing the woman's cries, prompting the convict to flee. The injured woman informed her daughter over the phone and was later admitted to a hospital, where she remained under treatment until Jan 26.
On Jan 24, the woman's daughter filed a police complaint. Police arrested the convict on Jan 25, and he has been in judicial custody since then.
