4 injured, 2 critically in head-on crash in Des Moines

DES MOINES, Iowa — A head-on crash in Des Moines Wednesday night injured four people, and two of them remain hospitalized in critical condition. Emergency responders were called to the 1600 block of Hartford Avenue around 9:05 Tuesday night to respond to a head-on crash between a Pontiac G6 and a Dodge Ram pickup, according to Sgt. Paul Parizek, spokesperson for the Des Moines Police Department. Suspect shot and killed by law enforcement on I-80 identified A preliminary investigation reveals the car was traveling eastbound on Hartford Avenue when it crossed into the westbound lane and collided with the pickup. The driver and a passenger in the car, both adult males, suffered life-threatening injuries and remain hospitalized. Another passenger in the car, an adult female, and the driver of the pickup, an adult male, were also transported to the hospital with injuries but are expected to survive. The identities of the people involved in the crash have not been released. Sgt. Parizek said excessive speed and alcohol impairment are potential contributing factors in the crash. A portion of Hartford Avenue was shut down while the crash scene was investigated and cleared. The DMPD Traffic Unit is continuing to investigate. Pedestrian killed in fatal Des Moines hit-and-run identified

DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines police are still working to identity the driver in a deadly hit-and-run crash that occurred over the weekend. At around 10:30 p.m. Saturday officers with the DMPD responded to a report of a pedestrian vs. vehicle crash in the 1100 block of East 9th Street. When first responders arrived at the scene, they found an adult male injured in the west alley. Despite life-saving measures, the male was declared dead at the scene. Police investigating shooting in Merle Hay neighborhood On Tuesday, the DMPD identified the victim as David Molina Ramirez, 62. According to police, it's believed that Ramirez was walking down the alley when he was hit by a vehicle that then fled the scene. Police also say that a preliminary forensic examination suggests Ramirez had been dead for several hours before he was found. The DMPD said its yet to identify the vehicle and the driver involved in the fatal hit-and-run.
