BEIJING: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Wednesday emphasised that resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in line with UN Security Council resolutions was essential for lasting peace in South Asia, as he met his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Beijing. In a high-level meeting held in Beijing, Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed their nations' enduring partnership and shared commitment to regional stability, a DPM's Office news release said. During the meeting, Dar reiterated Pakistan's deep appreciation for China's consistent support, particularly in defending Pakistan's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and right to self-defence. China says it backs Pakistan in defending 'sovereignty' He reaffirmed Islamabad's unwavering backing for China on its core issues and expressed a strong desire to further deepen the All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership. Central to Dar's remarks was the long-standing Jammu and Kashmir dispute. He stressed that a peaceful resolution of the issue, in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions, is vital for enduring peace in South Asia. Foreign Minister Wang Yi welcomed Dar to Beijing and described Pakistan as China's 'ironclad friend' and a valued strategic partner. He praised Pakistan's steadfast stance on national sovereignty and emphasized China's ongoing commitment to supporting Pakistan's development and regional role. The two sides discussed a wide range of bilateral and multilateral issues, reviewing the positive trajectory of ties between their countries. They agreed to bolster cooperation in trade, agriculture, ICT, and industrialisation, and expressed satisfaction with the progress of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), particularly Phase-II and its growing potential through third-party participation. Both leaders committed to maintaining close coordination on international platforms and pledged joint efforts to promote peace, development, and mutual prosperity across the region. The meeting was marked by the characteristic warmth and cordiality that define Pakistan-China relations.

Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan's strong commitment to its ties with Russia. He was talking to Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, Sergei Ryabkov, who called on him Thursday. It was agreed to pursue a long-term, multi-dimensional partnership spanning trade, energy, security, culture, education and people-to-people exchanges, said a news release by the DPM's Office. The two countries have been steadily building trust since the end of Cold War. Russia is one of the biggest exporters of oil, gas, gold and wheat in the world. Pakistan badly needs all these items.

Dar reviews support mechanisms for expats

Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister (DPM/FM) Senator Ishaq Dar on Thursday chaired a meeting of the committee for the upcoming Overseas Pakistanis Conference scheduled for April. The committee in its meeting discussed enhancing services and support mechanisms for overseas Pakistanis, with key stakeholders discussing strategic initiatives to streamline engagement and facilitate their contributions towards national progress, a DPM's Office news release said. The deputy prime minister directed that selected proposals should be finalised, reaffirming Pakistan's priority to bolster economic, trade, and investment ties with friendly countries. The DPM chaired the 4th inter-ministerial meeting, on investment project proposals with friendly countries. During the meeting, the committee reviewed briefs on potential investments in key sectors, including infrastructure, petroleum, trade, and information technology (IT), a DPM's Office news release said. The DPM also reiterated the government's unwavering focus on enhancing strategic partnerships and fostering cross-sector collaboration. SAPM Tariq Bajwa, Federal Secretaries for Foreign Affairs, Petroleum, IT, and Economic Affairs, Chairman NHA, Special Secretary Finance & Petroleum, and senior officials from SIFC, MoFA, Communications, and other departments attended the meeting.
