18 Maoists surrender in Sukma; 2 from PLGA
Raipur: Eighteen Maoists, including 10 carrying collective bounties of Rs 39 lakh, surrendered in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday. Over 50 cadres have given up arms in the week since CPI(Maoist) general secretary Basavaraju was gunned down in Abujhmarh.

Two of those who surrendered on Tuesday — Madkam Aayta,25, and Bhaskar alias Bhogam Lakhha, 26 — were with the dreaded PLGA battalion 1 and carried bounties of Rs 8 lakh each. Aayta was a platoon committee member.
The others include area committee members Madkam Kamlu, 25, and Laxman alias Madvi Chhannu, 28, who had bounties of Rs 5 lakh each, and six cadres who carried rewards of Rs 2 lakh SP Kiran Chavan said the surrendered cadres said they were disappointed with the hollow and inhuman Maoist ideology and angered by the atrocities inflicted on local tribals by senior Maoist commanders of other states.
They also said that they were encouraged by govt's Niyad Nellanar scheme and development works that are going on across Bastar. Also, the new rehabilitation policy for surrendered Maoists gave them the impetus to finally surrender and rejoin the mainstream.
All the surrendered Naxalites were provided immediate assistance of Rs 50,000 each. Further benefits will follow, he said.
The District Force, DRG-Sukma, Range Field Team (RFT) Konta, Sukma, Jagdalpur, CRPF battalions 80, 212, 219, and the intelligence personnel of 203 CoBRA battalion played a significant role in encouraging Maoists to surrender, said police.
In 2024, over 792 Maoists had surrendered in Bastar.
