Elmira legal cannabis shop reacts to recent raids
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM)— Legal cannabis shops have to go through a long approval process before they can open. Licensed stores have to meet certain health and safety standards and provide guarantees to customers that they are getting exactly what they paid for. The 420 Novelties locations in Elmira were raided on Wednesday, May 28, by the police. 420 Novelties locations raided on Wednesday morning 'We've been working on this for quite a while and passed a resolution of local law recently. We've been working with the state to finally give us the authority to do this, so it has been a work in progress,' said Dan Mandell, City of Elmira Mayor. Dabber Hashery is a legal cannabis dispensary in Elmira located at 1051 College Ave. It has been open since January 2025. In regard to the recent raids, the owner only had a few comments. Protestors rally against Medicaid funding cuts in Corning 'I don't have a strong opinion on it, honestly. We're working hard to just do a really good job here, and that is a big chore. We've got a lot to focus on with compliance and regulations, staying clean, and making sure we put a really good product out,' said Zeke Pierce, Dabber Hashery Owner. When asked if he thinks that all sticker shops should be shut down, he tells 18 News that there is not a lot of comment about it. 'I'm not so concerned with them, I do think that there is a competitive process by which you can go about trying to get a license to operate in this scene, and I don't know, I'm at a loss for words,' said Pierce. Chemung County's first dispensary opens in Elmira
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – After years of legalization, Chemung County officially has its first Cannabis dispensary and it's open for business. The Dabber Hashery opened its doors on January 17 at 1051 College Avenue. The dispensary is known as a micro business, which allows it to bring product to consumers farm to table. 'Most license types are one of those processes, so you can be just a cultivator or just a processor or just a retailer. you can't have all three. with this microbusiness that we won, we're able to do all of that,' said Owner and Worker Sam Somostrada. First look inside planned licensed cannabis dispensary in Elmira 18 News got a closer look at the laboratory to see how all of this is done. 'This is like how we store it in bulk. The freezer sort of brings out the color contrast differences and then we'll go from the patties into the jar into the fridge cure and that's how we keep it on the retail floor. It starts at the farm. It starts with the right cultivars and the right attention to growing and raising the plant for you know so it lends itself better to these processes down the line,' said CalmUnity Farms Owner Zeke Pierce. All of the Cannabis The Dabber Hashery sells is grown by its own workers or by Rec Roots on McGee Street. Somostrada says it's helpful to be in full control of the product it sends out. 'We can control the entire supply chain as far as that goes. So, we would be in control of all of the product, all of the testing and then right down to the quality of the smoke,' said Somostrada. First cannabis dispensary license in Chemung County approved in Elmira He also says the dispensary's prices are competitive, but it's difficult to compete with sticker shops. 'The question we're seeing is from people used to lower prices that're being offered by the sticker shops and the sticker shops have done a number to kind of distort people's perception on how much they should be paying for good quality cannabis,' said Sam Somostrada. The owners tell 18 News they have big plans set to roll out in the next couple of months, which includes events and new flavors. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
