Daimler Truck, Hyosung's FMK form joint venture to import Mercedes-Benz trucks to Korea
Global commercial vehicle manufacturer Daimler Truck announced Wednesday that it has established a strategic joint venture with FMK, a subsidiary of Korea's Hyosung Group, to become the official importer of Mercedes-Benz Trucks, Special Trucks and Daimler Buses in Korea. This partnership aims to elevate the customer experience by combining Daimler Truck's global expertise with FMK's strong local market knowledge. Together, the companies plan to offer industry-leading technology, premium products and a nationwide service network to deliver greater value to Korean customers. 'We're delighted to welcome FMK and Hyosung Group as joint venture partners,' said Harald Schmid, CEO of Daimler Truck Southeast Asia. 'This collaboration marks a key milestone in strengthening our presence in Korea. With FMK's deep local expertise, we are confident in delivering long-term value to customers, partners and employees.' Kim Gwang-chul, CEO of FMK Korea, also expressed pride in taking on the importer role, stating, 'With years of experience importing world-class automotive brands, we're excited to expand into the commercial vehicle sector with Daimler Truck." "This partnership further solidifies FMK's position as a leading automotive importer in Korea.' Mercedes-Benz trucks and buses entered the Korean market in 2003, with Daimler Truck Korea established in 2012. Current offerings include imported mid- and heavy-duty trucks and special-purpose vehicles. The transition to an importer-based system reflects Daimler Truck's customer-centric strategy and aligns with its global approach of establishing regional commercial vehicle centers since 2016. Finalization of the joint venture remains subject to regulatory approval.

Daimler Buses buys 49% stake in German software company Sinos
Daimler Buses has acquired a 49% stake in Sinos, a Germany-based software solutions provider for the electrified city bus fleets. The financial terms of the acquisition have not been revealed. Sinos is engaged in providing software solutions tailored for the management of electrified city bus fleets, particularly focusing on intelligent charging management systems. Daimler Buses CEO Till Oberwörder said: 'The Sinos software solution is user-friendly, efficient and expandable. This is why it has been so popular with our customers for several years now. 'With our stake, we want to make use of Sinos' expertise and innovative strength to develop charging management software that is even better tailored to our e-buses.' Sinos' offerings include advanced systems for charging and load management, and a suite of digital solutions for depot operations. Its portfolio for depot digitalisation ranges from live data integration from buses to the management of filling stations and car washes, including indoor positioning and parking space allocation in bus depots. The acquisition marks an expansion of the ongoing collaboration between Daimler Buses and Sinos. Since 2022, Daimler Buses has been in close partnership with Sinos, integrating their software into the services as part of the electrification of bus fleets and depots. The software provided by Sinos facilitates intelligent charging and supports the digitalisation and visualisation of depots. This includes the management of vehicle parking positions, aiding operators in process optimisation. These services are designed to complement the digital offerings already available from Daimler Buses. Over 20 transport companies across Europe have incorporated Sinos's solutions into their operations in cooperation with Daimler Buses. Daimler Buses, a segment of Daimler Truck, is a manufacturer of buses and coaches, encompassing the Mercedes-Benz, Setra, OMNIplus, and BusStore brands. The company's product range spans from coaches, inter-city buses, and city buses to special-purpose buses and bus chassis. Daimler Buses also operates a service network, offering a wide range of vehicle services and a marketplace for used buses and coaches. Its operations span across various subsidiaries in Europe, Latin America, Mexico, North America, and Türkiye. By 2030, Daimler aims to introduce locally CO2-neutral vehicle models in every segment, utilising either battery or hydrogen technology, with an initial emphasis on the key markets of Europe and Latin America. The company has set a target that by 2039, all new vehicles sold in its primary European market will be CO2-free. In December 2024, Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) said it plans to invest up to $285m in its Detroit manufacturing plant in Michigan, the US.
