'25 Innovation Market Pitch event winner announced
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — The winner of the 2025 Innovation Market Pitch Event has been announced as part of the 15th annual Innovation Market. Siouxland Growth Organization says Siouxland Golf Lessons got 1st place and received $5,500 to use towards their business. 2025 Juneteenth preview
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — A major holiday known as Juneteenth is returning to Sioux City after a five-year lapse. Juneteenth is a federal holiday that commemorates the Emancipation Proclamation for enslaved people in the U.S. The holiday was first celebrated in Texas back in 1865 when enslaved people were declared free. The president of the NAACP said this event welcomes all types to come celebrate the African American community. 'What to expect is just coming in ready to celebrate,' said Monique Scarlett, the president of the Sioux City NAACP. 'Community means everyone, so it doesn't matter what color you are, what religious background you have, whether you're male, female, it does not matter. Rules to follow when it comes to fireworks in Sioux City
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — As the Fourth of July holiday creeps ever closer, the City of Sioux City has issued a reminder on what their fireworks policies are. The city's municipal code outlines firework usage in Chapter 19.20, and the rules are also outlined on the city's website. To break it down, fireworks are only allowed to be set off during the Independence Day holiday and the night of New Year's Eve. Fireworks can be set off on July 3 between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m. and on July 4 from 9 a.m. until 11 p.m. At this time, the city's policy on these times is under consideration by the city council. In Sioux City, residents are prohibited from setting off fireworks at public parks, on city-owned property, or in a public roadway. Fireworks are also required to be set off by someone who isn't intoxicated. Violations may be reported to the Sioux City Police Department, and those caught violating the rules could face between $250 to $500 in fines. The city has also provided the following safety guidelines to make sure your Fourth of July is as safe as possible: Never allow children to play with or ignite fireworks Always make sure the area is safe for fireworks Alcohol and fireworks do not mix. Have a designated shooter! Follow label instructions and use common sense Never point or throw fireworks at another person Never shoot fireworks in metal or glass containers Always have a garden hose nearby, hooked up to a water supply Only light one firework at a time and move back quickly Never attempt to relight a firework Dispose of spent fireworks in a bucket of water. NEVER put them in your garbage! Never experiment with homemade fireworks Keep your pets inside and comfortable Get to know your neighbors and watch out for one another Additionally, Sioux City Fire Rescue has shared a list of upcoming fireworks shows. Sioux City Public Museum to offer another Peirce Mansion tour
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa (KCAU) — The Sioux City Public Museum will soon be offering another tour of the Peirce Mansion and the nearby area. The tour will take place on June 24 and last for approximately two hours, allowing those who attend to check out the Peirce Mansion and the surrounding neighborhood. The mansion was built by Sioux City developer John Peirce. Peirce helped the city grade the hilly area and establish a cable car line that once ran the full length of Jackson Street up to 40th Street. After the house tour, the Jackson Street Walking Tour will begin at 6:30 pm. This leg of the tour will take attendees on a guided tour that explores Jackson Street and the surrounding neighborhood's history. Topics will include notable residents and architecture. 2 Siouxland groups hosting human rights events Saturday
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — On Saturday, two Siouxland groups are planning to hold human rights events. According to a release from Sweetgrass Uprising and the Siouxland Good Troublemakers, they will be holding events 'to stand up for human rights.' The first of the two events is a United We Stand March that will be held by Sweetgrass Uprising in South Sioux City. The march will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the vacant Advance Auto Parts parking lot. The march will then head across the Veteran's Memorial Bridge into Sioux City, leading marchers to the Mildred Anderson Pavillion, and then the Sioux City Public Museum Green Space. During the march, there will be four prayer stops. Multiple treaties will also be read. This event will begin at around 6 p.m. I started Sweetgrass Uprising as a way to bring people together in the community and to unify as one against an unjust and corrupt government,' Sweetgrass Uprising organizer Jessica Lopez-Walker said. 'We will stand up for those who cannot. They won't break our spirits!' Siouxland Good Troublemakers co-organizer Garie Lewis said, 'With the chaos coming out of D.C., it is more important than at anytime in my life for all people to come together and realize that we have more in common with each other than we do with any so-called leader that tries to make us hate our neighbors. Any person that does that is the enemy of peace.' During the event, donations for Safe Place of Siouxland will also be collected.
