Punjab Police have arrested a close associate of foreign-based terrorist Arsh Dalla and Jindi Mehandipuria, who is a brother of slain terrorist Teja Mehandipuri, from Ahmedabad in Gujarat, said director general of police Gaurav Yadav here on Monday. The operation was jointly conducted by counter-intelligence (CI), Jalandhar, and Hoshiarpur Police with the support of Gujarat Police. DGP Yadav said that preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused Lavish was acting under the direct instructions of Dalla and was engaged in extortion activities, including firing at targets to intimidate victims. He said that accused Lavish has remained in constant communication with his foreign-based handlers and was preparing to execute a sensational crime in Punjab. Sharing operation details, assistant inspector general CI-Jalandhar Navjot Singh Mahal said that Punjab Police had been following the trail of the accused Lavish for the last few months, and following the technical and human intel, police teams managed to track his location in Gujarat. The AIG said that a preliminary investigation has revealed that accused Lavish had conducted a recce of a Rahon-based liquor contractor and a Nawanshahr-based travel agent from whom Dalla had demanded extortion of ₹50 lakh each. Hoshiarpur senior superintendent of police (SSP) Sandeep Kumar Malik said that the accused had been absconding since May 2024 after committing murder in the Model Town area of Hoshiarpur. The two attackers, later identified as members of the Bambiha gang , are believed to be part of a larger terrorist-gangster nexus led by Dalla. From their spot inspection, Kotputli-Behror police suspected that the assailants had a pistol and a Sten gun-like carbine, capable of firing up to 10 rounds. The assilants loaded a magazine and fired a total of 35 rounds. Both atatckers fearlessly arrived at the hotel on a Splendor bike, parked it, and went in different directions. One fired bullets with a Sten gun at the shops outside, while the other went inside. He handed a slip demanding Rs 5 crore to the employee at the reception. During this, he looked at the CCTV camera and started firing with a pistol. The employee hid under the counter. Meanwhile, the firing from outside shattered the shop windows. The staff saved themselves by hiding.

NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has carried out searches at 10 locations across Rajasthan, Haryana, and Delhi as part of its investigation into the 2024 Neemrana hotel firing incident, officials said on Monday. The case is linked to Canada-based Khalistani terrorist Arsh Dalla, who is wanted in India for his alleged involvement in multiple violent crimes and terror-related activities, they added. Dalla has been declared a proclaimed offender in more than 50 cases, including murder, attempted murder, extortion, and terror financing. A Red Corner Notice was issued against him in May 2022, and he was officially designated a terrorist by the Indian government in 2023. The attack, in which 35 shots were fired on September 8, last year all around the premises of Hotel Highway King in Neemrana, Rajasthan, was aimed at terrorising and threatening people, the officials said. 'They had used prohibited weapons and also threatened the hotel's owner and manager for extortion money. The manager had also earlier received several threat calls from international numbers,' a spokesperson of the NIA said in a statement.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted extensive searches at 10 locations in Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi to probe the conspiracy behind the 2024 Neemrana hotel firing attack linked with Canada-based Khalistani terrorist Arsh Dalla, the agency stated on Monday. The NIA conducted the searches on May 3. The attack, in which 35 shots were fired on September 8 last year, all around the premises of Hotel Highway King, was aimed at terrorising and threatening people. According to NIA, the two attackers were subsequently identified as members of the Bambiah gang, having connections with Dalla's terrorist-gangster network. They had used prohibited weapons and also threatened the hotel's owner and manager for extortion money. The manager had also earlier received several threat calls from international numbers, the NIA stated. NIA, which had taken over the case in December, seized several electronic devices and other incriminating materials during the searches conducted at the premises of accused / suspects engaged in promoting violent criminal activities. These accused/suspects had been involved in providing financial support, and in carrying out acts of violence and terror at the behest of designated individual terrorist Arsh Dalla and his associate Dinesh Gandhi, as per NIA associates have been resorting to extortion through such terror and violent acts to raise funds for banned Khalistani terrorist outfits, NIA investigations have revealed. "Businessmen and other targets were identified by these gangsters and their aides, who would threaten and coerce the targets into paying off huge sums," the NIA stated. The investigations in the case RC 01/2024/NIA/JPR are continuing as part of NIA's all-out efforts to identify and dismantle terrorist and gangster syndicates active in the country.
