Jasmine Crockett surprises reporter with claim Republicans 'tell me how much they like me'
Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, surprised a local reporter during an interview on Sunday with her claim that Republicans frequently say how much they like her. "I think that people just have found a way to connect with me, and I think, you know, there was a point in which people in the party, well, within parties, not within our specific party, felt like, 'Oh, she's Black and she's proud, so only Black people will listen to her,'" said the liberal congresswoman. "And then it's like, well, wait a minute, maybe just liberals will listen to her, and now it's become clear as I have been out in various cities throughout this country, where I've had Republicans walk up to me and tell me how much they like me," Crockett told Jason Whitely, a reporter for Dallas ABC affiliate WFAA, on "Inside Texas Politics." Whitely responded, "No, you haven't, are you serious?" Crockett has been outspoken in her criticism of President Donald Trump and reportedly has her sights on becoming the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee. Crockett also expressed some doubt about having an extensive career in politics, pointing to "death threats." "I did criminal defense work, and I worked with true blue criminals and never had to worry about death threats. And waking up and having to deal with death threats, having to think about where I go, how much security I have, because of all the hateful rhetoric that is circling, and a lot of it is spewed directly from the president of the United States himself," she said. Texas murder suspect on the loose after escaping before court appearance
A murder suspect is on the loose in north Texas after allegedly removing his ankle monitor before a court appearance, according to the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office. Trevor McEuen was due in court on Monday for a murder charge in Kaufman County, the sheriff's office said in a statement. Kaufman County, which is east of Dallas, has an active warrant for bail revocation for capital murder for McEuen, officials said. "If you are aware of anything suspicious in the area, please contact 911. Do not attempt to apprehend McEuen," the sheriff's office said. "Our number one priority is the safety of all citizens of Van Zandt County. We are working diligently with our partner agencies to ensure the safety of all our citizens," Sheriff Kevin Bridger said in a statement. McEuen is accused of shooting his neighbor to death in May 2023, according to Dallas ABC affiliate WFAA. Aaron Martinez, 35, was found dead in his truck, which had been riddled with bullets. Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-Texas, had called for hate crime charges when the shooting happened, saying, "Three weeks ago, Aaron Martinez was murdered in cold blood by a man who wanted to drive Hispanics out of Kaufman County. ... If Kaufman County authorities continue to drag their feet on filing hate crimes charges against Trevor McEuen, federal prosecutors need to step in to ensure that justice is served." McEuen was arrested again in September 2024 after he posted a photo of Martinez and Martinez's uncle on Instagram and threatened to shoot the uncle.

Tesla owner sues for $1M after keyed car causes ‘emotional duress'
A Texas man whose Tesla was keyed in an airport parking lot is seeking $1 million for the damage done to his car and the 'emotional duress' he endured. A plaintiff identified only as J.N. filed the seven-figure civil suit against Rafael Hernandez, whom he claims keyed his 2022 Tesla Model X outside Dallas Fort Worth International Airport earlier this month, reported CBS News. The alleged act of vandalism is one of many incidents reported against Elon Musk's electric vehicles since the billionaire teamed up with the Trump administration to cut government services and spending. The lawsuit alleges that vandals who attack Teslas intend to inflict 'mental and emotional injury and harm' to Tesla owners like J.N., according to Dallas ABC affiliate WFAA. The plaintiff claims to have also lost wages. An onboard camera attached to J.N.'s vehicle filmed the suspect damaging his car in Mid-March. Hernandez, 56, was arrested over the weekend after video of the incident went viral online. During a recent White House event promoting Musk's products, Trump vowed that activists who damage Teslas would face the consequences. 'We're going to catch you and you're going to go through Hell,' the president said. Many Tesla owners have reported selling their vehicles or disguising them as being from a different maker out of shame or fear.
