KOTA SAMARAHAN (June 12): A 27-year-old man was killed in a road accident this afternoon after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle at KM8 Jalan Kota Samarahan–Sadong Jaya in Asajaya. Kota Samarahan District Police Chief Superintendent Damataries Lautin said the incident occurred at around 3.05pm, when the victim was believed to have lost control of his motorcycle and veered into the opposite lane. The motorcycle collided head-on with a 4WD travelling from Asajaya towards Kuching. 'The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 3.55pm by medical personnel. His body has been sent to the Sarawak General Hospital Forensic Unit for a post-mortem,' Damataries said in a statement. At the time of the crash, the weather was clear, the road was dry, and the two-way dual carriageway was in normal condition. The driver of the 4WD sustained only minor injuries, with bruises on his left arm. His vehicle suffered front-end damage, while the motorcycle was severely damaged. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving causing death. KOTA SAMARAHAN (May 14): Swift action by a police patrol unit led to the arrest of three men for allegedly trespassing into a scrap goods premises here early today. Kota Samarahan police chief Supt Damataries Lautin said the crime-prevention team was on routine patrol duty when they spotted the suspects within the premises. 'The trio, aged between 29 and 36, was detained as they were leaving the premises at Mile 8 Jalan Muara Tuang at around 12.45am,' he said in a statement. He said during initial questioning, the suspects confessed to having trespassed into the area with intent to commit theft. 'However, no items were stolen and no seizures were made by the patrol team,' he added. Damataries said police will follow up with the premises owner and also review footage from security cameras in the area. The case is being investigated under Section 447 of the Penal Code, with police obtaining a remand order against the suspects today. Police managed to apprehend two suspects in connection with the case. – Police photo KOTA SAMARAHAN (May 13): Two men, aged 28 and 35, were apprehended by police early this morning after they were caught with stolen cables at a premises near Jalan Samarahan-Kuching Expressway. Kota Samarahan district police chief Supt Damataries Lautin said a report on the incident was received at around 5.16am. 'At around 4.30am during a routine crime-prevention patrol, the team stumbled upon a suspicious vehicle parked in front of a furniture shop at Jalan Samarahan-Kuching Expressway. 'As the patrol team approached the vehicle, the two suspects attempted to escape by reversing their vehicle before they were eventually apprehended,' he said in a statement. Further inspection of the suspects' vehicle revealed an assortment of tools believed to have been used in the crime, which comprised two cutters, an axe, and a plier, as well as one cable roll stored on the rear passenger seat. Police also discovered that one of the suspects, the 28-year-old, is currently wanted by authorities. All seized items, including the vehicle, have been taken in to assist with the investigation.
