Michael Duffy's cross from the right found Gavin Whyte who first had his effort blocked before the Galway defenders attempted clearance cannoned back off Derry defender Holt and it ended up in the back of the net. Danny Mullen twice came close for the home side before the break with Sam Todd heading over a Duffy free-kick late in the half. Neither side looked like winning the game in a second half devoid of any real chances or quality in the final third.
