Another legendary quarterback has pitched their thoughts on the situation between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Aaron Rodgers.
Another legendary quarterback has pitched their thoughts on the situation between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Aaron Rodgers. originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Earlier this month, we heard Hall of Fame Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw issue some headline-grabbing remarks about his former team pursuing Aaron Rodgers in free agency. Advertisement Bradshaw wasn't the only legendary signal caller to let his voice be heard about Rodgers' decision, one that seemed to stretch on for months before the official declaration that he's heading to Pittsburgh as expected. Before the signing became official this week, Miami Dolphins icon Dan Marino discussed the possibility of Rodgers joining the Steelers and how the four-time MVP could make them a contender right away. "I still think Aaron has some game," Marino said. "He does. He can throw it as good as anybody that has ever thrown the football. If his mind's into it and he's ready to go and that works. I don't think it would be an issue with the Steelers." If this extended waiting period wasn't an indication though, Rodgers has the personality that prefers to march to the beat of his own drum, leading many to believe it's much harder to manage his mental than other QBs. Advertisement Marino acknowledges is all-time talent, but is warning the Steelers organization about what they could be getting into. "But you gotta have someone that really wants to play there," he said. "And he's getting older. So I don't know what his mindset is." Many predicted Rodgers to land in Pittsburgh because it was the best remaining option for teams looking for a starting quarterback. So does he actually want to be there? Or did he settle for what was best available? Rodgers, who will turn 42 in December, signed a one-year deal with the Steelers, making his future with the organization dependent on a solid 2025 season. Dan Marino Issues Blunt Warning to Steelers About Aaron Rodgers
Dan Marino Issues Blunt Warning to Steelers About Aaron Rodgers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After months of fans begging free-agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers to make a decision, he finally obliged. Advertisement On Thursday, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced they had reached a one-year deal with the four-time MVP just ahead of the team's mandatory minicamp, ending the near 10 weeks of speculation about whether or not Rodgers would play in 2025 or retire. Many have weighed in on the Steelers' situation in the 24 hours since the Rodgers news became official, but one former player's opinion that stuck out above the others is that of legendary Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino. During a recent radio interview with 93.7 The Fan, the nine-time Pro Bowler admitted that while he still believes in Rodgers to play at a high level, he has some serious questions about where Rodgers' head is it, and he sent a subtle message to the Steelers to essentially proceed with caution. Legendary Miami Dolphins QB Dan MarinoJasen Vinlove-Imagn Images 'I still think Aaron has some game,' Marino disclosed. 'He does. He can throw it as good as anybody that has ever thrown the football. If his mind's into it and he's ready to go and that works. I don't think it would be an issue with the Steelers. Advertisement 'But you got to have someone that really wants to play there. And he's getting older. So I don't know what his mindset is. But he does still have talent.' There is some good news for the Steelers and their fans should the Rodgers' signing not pan out. Former New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers.© Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Pittsburgh is financially investing very little in the 41-year-old QB. 'Aaron Rodgers said on the 'Pat McAfee Show' he'd play for $10 million, and that's where the base salary is expected to be with some incentives to get a little higher,' Rapoport stated on Friday. 'It is not going to be a big-money deal.' If Rodgers struggles or things go sideways between he and the Steelers, the team can turn to Mason Rudolph, who has an 8-4-1 record as the Steelers' starter in his previous four seasons with the team. What other Miami Dolphins number(s) should be retired?
In the past, we have discussed the Miami Dolphins' Ring of Honor and who should be future additions to the list of 24 players and two head coaches currently in the Ring of Honor. The last inductee was former Dolphins defensive tackle Tim Bowens, who was honored late last season at halftime against the Arizona Cardinals. Before Bowens' induction, the previous addition went back to 2014, when another former defensive tackle, Manny Fernandez, was inducted. Beyond the ring of honor, the Miami Dolphins bestow an even bigger honor on former players. That's the honor of having their jersey number retired by the team, meaning no other player will ever wear that number again unless the team, the player, and/or their family make an exception. A good example of the kind of exception that might occur at some point was when former Houston Oilers (now the Tennessee Titans) quarterback Warren Moon showed up at former Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward's introduction ceremony for the Titans, where he gave Ward his new jersey with his formerly returned number 1 on it. Advertisement The list of 'officially retired Miami Dolphins jersey numbers is short- #12 (Bob Griese): Retired in 1982 #13 (Dan Marino): Retired in 2000 #39 (Larry Csonka): Retired in 2002 Two other players have their numbers unofficially retired, as no one has been assigned them since their playing days with the team- #54 (Zach Thomas): While not formally retired, no other player has worn this number since Thomas retired. #99 (Jason Taylor): No other player has worn this number since Taylor's departure. So tonight's question of the day is: What other players, if any, should have their former jersey numbers retired by the Miami Dolphins in the future, and why? Please give us your thoughts and answers in the comments section below- More from
