Circle K to discount gas price by 10 cents per litre — here's when you can save at the pumps

Circle K will be giving Canadian drivers a break on gasoline prices, but you have to know when to fill up. The company will discount gasoline by 10 cents per litre at its stations on Thursday, May 22, from 4 to 7 p.m. local time, across the country. The discount will be applied directly at the pump. The offer is part of what the company calls Fuel Day. Circle K will also donate to Food Banks Canada for every fuel transaction during the event, with each donation equivalent to one meal. 'With over two million people visiting food banks this month, Canada's need for food banks is at an all-time high. We are so grateful for this partnership with Circle K, which will provide critical support to Canadians in need this summer, helping us deliver essential food and resources across the country,' said Erin Filey-Wronecki, chief development and partnerships officer at Food Banks Canada, in the release. Drivers can find a Circle K gas station near them on the company's website . Dan McTeague, president of Canadians for Affordable Energy and gas-price watcher, has advised drivers in recent interviews to hold off buying gas until the evening, when gas stations tend to lower their prices. It's best to buy after 6 p.m., he said. Furthermore, if you're heading out of town, buy your gas away from the cities — gas stations outside of the GTA and big cities tend to sell fuel at significantly lower prices, he said. Drivers can get a gas-price heads-up on McTeague's website, , find the cheapest gas prices in your community on and learn more about fuel prices with Ontario's motor fuel prices report .

Create Account On April 9, when gas was $1.17.6 a litre at many stations in the GTA, gas wizard Dan McTeague said enjoy it while it lasts because it won't. Don't look now but suddenly gas prices are creeping back up to normal gouging levels. It was too good to be true. It got that low because as the federal election kicked off, Prime Minister Mark Carney cancelled the bizarre consumer carbon tax hoax — a move that instantly took about 20 cents off the price of each litre. But just as Canadians were set to enjoy this much-needed break in affordability, McTeague came with his warning. On April 9, 2025 gas per litre got as low as $1.17.6 at many stations in the GTA including this one on Erin Mills Parkway in Mississauga. Photo by Joe Warmington / Toronto Sun 'The 20-cent savings now will end up as a 40-cent increase per litre as soon as the new taxes are implemented,' McTeague told the Toronto Sun. 'Anybody who believes these prices will stay this way are so gullible you could sell them last year's snow.' He was prophetic. McTeague warned what could be coming if Canadians didn't elect the Conservatives under Pierre Poilievre, who promised to scrap the carbon tax all together and not replace it with a new industrial formular. On Monday, however, Canadians in bigger numbers than the opposition voted for Carney's Liberals — they voted for a promised industrial carbon tax to replace the one that was so controversial under Justin Trudeau. So it's not a matter of if but when. Remember that Carney — as a former UN envoy on climate change who as chair of Brookfield Assets and a leader within the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland — has never hidden from his Net Zero view, including in a 2023 video when he said, 'We all know that we need to stop burning fossil fuels' and 'We need actual plans and strategies tin order to deliver that outcome.' This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. While the new industrial tax on gas and oil has not yet been implemented, the price at the tank is on its way back to where it was before the consumer tax was eliminated anyway. 'Whether they implement the commercial tax on businesses or make them pay carbon credits, the end result will be the same in that those costs will be passed along to the consumer,' said McTeague. Read More People at the pumps are already seeing early indications of where this could be going. On Thursday morning, at many GTA stations the price was $1.36.9. Part of the reason for that is the switch from winter to summer gas and part of it is 'gas bar shenanigans' in which once they make their money for the day, they lower their prices. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. For example, Wednesday the price per litre started at $1.38 but ended the day at $1.24. What seems gone are those lower prices that people enjoyed for a couple of weeks. McTeague is sticking with his 40-cents-a-litre hike prediction and said it will be $1.60 a litre before we know it. 'As people have their elbows up, they will be picking your pockets again,' joked McTeague. He also fears the net zero approach of the Liberal government of the past will kick in again in Ottawa which may mean no new pipelines, less oil and gas being sold around the world, a weaker Canadian dollar, and an all-out recession. 'My suggestion is getting a good mechanic because it will be expensive to get a new car,' he said. 'If our dollar goes any lower, we could end up looking like Cuba.' In case you are wondering, the cost per litre for gas in Havana Thursday is $1.49. With just one stroke of a pen from a climate zealot prime minister — who had an eight-vehicle motorcade during the campaign — it could soon be that in Canada and even 11 cents more. The gas price holiday is over and very soon it's expected that Canadians will be forced to pay a higher bill. jwarmington@ Travel USA Editorial Cartoons Money News Celebrity Sunshine Girls
