Moment ‘inexperienced driver' has miracle escape after launching off Long Island pier

This is the dramatic moment an 'inexperienced driver' accidentally launched her Jeep off the end of a pier but miraculously escaped by landing on a floating dock. The incident was caught on camera at the Brookhaven Town Marina, Long Island, on Mother's Day (May 11). The silver 2008 Jeep was being driven by a 17-year-old female when she accidentally accelerated and drove off the end of the parking lot. Fortunately, there was a floating dock below and, by some miracle, the car landed on that instead of plunging into the Long Island Sound. 'Every day, I wake up and never know what the day will bring,' Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico wrote on his Facebook post which originally posted the video. The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.

'Inexperienced' Teen Driver Gets Into Wild Accident on Long Island

A teen driver in Long Island is incredibly lucky following a hard-to-believe car wreck on Mother's Day. Officials told News 12 that the 17-year-old driver accidentally accelerated too hard, causing her silver 2008 Jeep SUV to drive through a bulkhead at the Brookhaven Town Marina in Port Jefferson Sunday night. The car went through the divider and nearly entered the Long Island Sound, but thankfully landed on floating dock. In a video shared by Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico on Facebook, you can see the car appearing to get ready to pull into a parking spot when it suddenly lurches forward through the barrier. "Every day, I wake up and never know what the day will bring," Panico wrote. "Moments ago, an inexperienced driver drove off the Port Jefferson Dock, and luckily onto a floating dock. Thankfully, no one was injured. "Thank you to our Parks Department, Public Safety and Fire Marshals, and the Suffolk County Police and Fire Departments for the quick response." Panico added that if not for the bulkhead, the car would have launched into the air, clearing the floating dock and landing in the water. The Jeep lost its front bumper and the boards of the floating dock were crushed in the mishap, but thankfully, the driver escaped with only minor injuries. She was removed from the scene by firefighters and taken to a local hospital for examination and then sent home. A "heavy duty tow truck" was requested to remove the vehicle from the dock, according to the Port Jefferson Fire Department, which also posted photos from the accident on its official Facebook page. ‘Inexperienced driver' launches Jeep over Long Island pier — and sticks miraculous landing

She should have dropped anchor. A teen driver accidentally catapulted her car over a pier, miraculously landing face up on a floating dock — reminiscent of a made-for-TV mishap — while barely avoiding plunging into the Long Island Sound. 3 A driver on Long Island plunged her Jeep onto a floating dock in Port Jefferson. Port Jefferson Fire Department Advertisement The caught-on-camera incident involving a silver 2008 Jeep happened on Mother's Day at Brookhaven Town Marina's parking lot in Port Jefferson at around 6:42 p.m., according to Newsday. The Jeep lost its front bumper when the 17-year-old driver accidentally accelerated her SUV over a bulkhead and crashed through a guard rail, News12 reported. The driver's side tire left dangling over the water on the side closest to the wooden dock, while the rear of the car was left tilted up. The impact also demolished the floating dock's wooden boards at the point where the passenger side headlight initially slammed down on the platform. Port Jefferson Fire Department Local firefighters safely removed the woman, who sustained only minor injuries, from the SUV.
