IB Nation Sports Talk: Boston College Insider Dan Rubin Talks Bill O'Brian, BC Quarterbacks
Irish Breakdown continues our offseason Notre Dame opponent series with Boston College insider Dan Rubin on today's show. Rubin and IB's Sean Stires discuss BC head coach Bill O'Brien heading into his second season as well as how the BC quarterback competition looks after the addition of former Alabama QB Dylan Lonergan. They discuss other questions the Eagles face as well as how ND defensive line coach and BC alum Al Washington factored in the coaching search before O'Brien was hired. There's much more to talk about in Rapid Fire as well. See the list of topics below! Today's Rapid Fire topics include: Advertisement * We discuss the announcement that Notre Dame men's basketball alum Pat Garrity will be the general manager for both the Irish men's and women's basketball programs. * We've talked a lot about the future of the Notre Dame - Southern Cal football series recently and there's more in the news on that subject. One of USC's suggested alterations to the Notre Dame series is playing it on the front end of the schedule, potentially with some neutral-site locations sprinkled in among games at each other's homes. Do we Buy or Sell those possibilities? * There's an ON3 video show that's asking if the expansion of the CFP to 16 teams would force Notre Dame to join a conference. Someone asked them 'if non-conference games stop mattering, what happens to the team that only schedules non-conference games. Is this the straw that breaks the camel's back to make Notre Dame join a conference?' We have thoughts on that. * The College Football Playoff is nearing consensus to change the seeding process next season and eliminate first-round byes for conference champions. ACC commissioner Jim Phillips said recently that he's in favor of going to straight seeding for this year rather than the seeding format they had last year. That would also mean Notre Dame would be eligible for a first-round bye. The proposal requires unanimous approval from the 10 FBS conferences and Notre Dame to be enacted for the upcoming season. On a scale of 1 to 10: How confident are you it will actually happen? Advertisement * The NFL is going to vote on a new straight seeding playoff proposal this week. It would de-emphasize winning your division and incentivize winning for teams to host playoff games. So, if you're a wildcard team with a better record than a divisional winner, you would get to host a playoff game instead of the division winner. Do you Buy or Sell it? * NFL owners will vote on whether to allow NFL players to compete in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. There would be A limit of one player per NFL team on each national team participating. In other words, the Bears could have one player on Team USC, one player on Team Canada, etc. Buy or Sell NFL players playing flag football in the Olympics? Neural Potential: Mouser Series Explores Brain Computer Interfaces at the Intersection of Technology and the Mind
DALLAS & FORT WORTH, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mar 25, 2025-- Mouser Electronics, Inc., the authorized global distributor with the newest electronic components and industrial automation products, today announced the release of the latest installment of the Empowering Innovation Together (EIT) technology series, which examines the rapidly evolving field of brain-computer interfaces (BCIs). This series takes a deep dive into the engineering challenges and opportunities in the development of mind-controlled systems. This press release features multimedia. View the full release here: BCIs create direct communication between the brain and external devices, enabling applications like motor function restoration for individuals with paralysis, speech enhancement for those with communication impairments, and even cognitive augmentation. These systems rely on electrode-based neural signal acquisition and advanced signal processing algorithms to translate brain activity into actionable commands. In the Tech Between Us podcast, host Raymond Yin, Mouser Director of Technical Content, and Dr. Dan Rubin, Critical Care Neurologist at Massachusetts General Hospital and Instructor at Harvard Medical School, explore the complexities of BCI implementation. Their conversation includes latency challenges, signal fidelity and the ethical considerations of neurotechnology. Mouser's In Between The Tech podcast features Dr. Christoph Guger, Founder & CEO of Medical Engineering, who discusses the evolution of BCIs, their role in neuro-rehabilitation, and the next phase of innovation in the field. 'Mind-controlled machines are no longer theoretical, they are already improving lives,' said Yin. 'Progress in neural signal processing, non-invasive electrode technology, and AI-driven analytics is accelerating the viability of BCIs. This new series highlights the engineering advancements that are making these systems more accessible and effective.' In addition to podcasts, Mouser's EIT series includes video, technical articles, and topic-related infographics, as well as subscriber-exclusive content providing key insights into cutting-edge developments such as brain-activated therapeutic devices for stroke rehabilitation. By focusing on real-world applications and emerging challenges, the series equips engineers with the knowledge needed to contribute to the future of neurotechnology.
