A new crèche and fishing stars in the flesh – school news to catch up on Little Squirrels have space to grow A brand-new crèche at Mandini Academy has expanded the educational offering in the town. Officially unveiled on Monday, Little Squirrels crèche will enrol children from the age of three months and up, allowing pupils to remain at Mandini Academy – previously Grade 0 to 12 – for their entire school career. 'Little Squirrels has been established in response to the growing demand for high-quality early childhood care in the Mandeni area,' said Mandini Academy principal Desigan Pillay. 'The crèche offers a safe, stimulating and inclusive environment tailored to the developmental needs of infants and young children.' 'This is where our usual 95 to 100 percent pass rate in Grade 12 begins,' said Pillay. The Ashton International College Ballito Grade 9 pupil also helped his province to the overall team title while fishing at his first nationals in Witbank. His excellent performance in tough, wet conditions saw him place second nationally and a nomination to represent South Africa in an international tournament later this year. Olivia dances her way to world finals Ashton International College Ballito ballerina Olivia Wynne has qualified to represent South Africa at the Dance World Cup in Spain later this year. The Grade 8 pupil earned her place by way of some fantastic performances at the Dance World Cup qualifiers in Pretoria, where she represented the Break-Thru Dance Academy. She qualified in the ballet, contemporary and showstopper categories as a soloist and as a member of Break-Thru's senior elite team. Norwich girls to represent England at Dance World Cup
A group of street dancers will fly the flag for England after qualifying for the finals of the Dance World youngsters, aged 10 to 13 and from Avian Dance School in Norwich, will join more than 120,000 competitors from 66 countries at the event in Spain in said it would be fundraising over the coming months to help meet the "significant cost" of their travel, accommodation, entry fees and costumes."This is an extraordinary opportunity for these young dancers and it's been a privilege watching them grow in not only technique and performance level, but also self-confidence and self-belief," said principal Harriet Wigger. Knaresborough dance school heads to World Cup again
A children's dance school is set to represent England at the Dance World Cup for a second year Freedom Performing Arts managed to secure sixth place at the event last year in Prague. The competition saw the group up against 5,000 dancers from 65 countries, and this July they will head to Burgos in Spain for another attempt at the group's founder Amy Meikle said: "We didn't even expect to qualify last year, let alone get sixth in the world. It gave us that little bit of confidence that maybe we could do this again". Freedom entered one piece in 2024 but will perform 10 routines involving 41 dancers this summer. They have been split into two age Meikle set up the dance school in 2010 and offers a variety of classes to children aged 3-18. The dancers have now begun fundraising efforts for the trip, having spent £20,000 on flights, accommodation and costumes for the 22 dancers who took part last came from sponsorship, raffles, bake sales and other fundraising year their target is £40,000 to help parents cover the cost of the Meikle added :"It's incredible to give them that opportunity and see them up there."Anyone who can help would be amazing, we are looking for sponsorship."Listen to highlights from North Yorkshire on BBC Sounds, catch up with the latest episode of Look North or tell us a story you think we should be covering here.
