Birmingham nonprofit to offer free meals to low-income families

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Daniel Payne Legacy Foundation announced its newest initiative to provide free meals for low-income families. The initiative is called 'Daniel's Meal Subscription Service' and will provide weekly meals for families with low to moderate income who live in the District 9 footprint of Birmingham for 12 months. The initiative starts April 5 at noon. The first 100 families will be selected via a raffling system. Community members can sign up for the program for $125 a month. Applications will be available on the foundation's website. Daniel Payne Legacy Village Foundation to provide weekly meals to low-income families

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Daniel Payne Legacy Village Foundation is launching a new initiative to provide weekly meals to low and moderate-income families living in the District 9 area of Birmingham. Daniel's Meal Subscription Service will kick off on Saturday, April 5. Meals will be provided through the service every week for 12 months. Food for the meals will be sourced from the foundation's local partners in Greater Birmingham. Volunteers will prepare and package the meals at the Daniel Payne Community Plaza for families to pick up. The Daniel Payne Legacy Foundation says that around 32-36 meals/ servings per month will be provided to each household participating in the program. Jefferson County EMA encourages planning ahead for severe weather conditions The first 100 families in the program will be selected through a raffling system to receive free weekly meals. After the first 100 households are selected, families can sign up for the subscription program for $125 a month. Applications for Daniel's Meal Subscription Service will be available on the foundation's website starting on March 15. The foundation can also be directly contacted Tuesday- Friday at 205-201-4498 from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. According to the Daniel Payne Legacy Village foundation, this initiative was made possible by a $255,000 grant from the City of Birmingham.
