Loan move "likely" for injury-hit Liverpool striker

Liverpool are hoping to add a senior option at No9 this summer. The likes of Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Joao Pedro and Jonathan David have been extensively linked with an Anfield move. Aside from David, who is out of contract, none of the rest on the list is going to come cheap. Prices as high as £150m have been quoted in relation to Isak, while Ekitike and Joao Pedro could fetch £100m each. Advertisement In order to make room in the squad - and the budget - a certain number of outgoings will be required. Sporting director Richard Hughes is no doubt hard at work trying to find buyers for Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez - both of whom are expected to leave Anfield this summer. Jota, 28, is out of contract in only two years and this could be Liverpool's best chance to cash in on the injury-prone forward. Nunez, meanwhile, could have been sold in January but no suitors met Liverpool's reported asking price of £75m. It could be a different story in summer with Hughes and Co. ready to accept bids for the Uruguay international. Advertisement And should Arne Slot add to the ranks then it could mean uncertainty for another one of the Reds' strikers. Jayden Dann's unfortunate season Jayden Danns has been in and around the first-team picture under Slot and predecessor Jurgen Klopp - playing in four competitions for the Dutchman this season. He was injured last summer - preventing a Championship loan - but managed a loan move to Sunderland at the end of the January window. Unfortunately for the 19-year-old he didn't kick a ball for the Black Cats, who are on the brink of Premier League promotion. A back injury was discovered in his medical and he has spent more time at the AXA Training Centre working on his rehab than at the Stadium of Light. Advertisement Having secured a long-term deal before his loan move, Liverpool are betting big on the homegrown prospect and are not going to sanction a permanent move in summer. © IMAGO - Jayden Danns Liverpool Jayden Danns will move on loan That's according to Lewis Steele in the Daily Mail, who says that another loan move is on the cards for the injury-hit frontman. 'Danns, 19, is regularly spotted reporting for duty at the AXA Training Centre and is working hard on his rehabilitation,' he wrote. 'He will hope to play a part in the pre-season tour of Hong Kong and Japan this summer – but a loan seems likely next season.' Several contending clubs could come forward for Danns, who had plenty of Championship interest before a deal with Sunderland was agreed. It might even be Hollywood-led Wrexham, who are now in the second tier and who had plans to sign Danns last season.

Former Colchester United favourite lands managerial role at non-league side

FORMER Colchester United favourite Neil Danns has been named as Southport's new first-team manager. The 42-year-old, who helped the U's achieve a historic promotion in 2006, has taken charge at the National League North club, succeeding Jim Bentley in the role. Danns has taken up the role after leaving his role as assistant boss at League Two side Tranmere Rovers, where he had worked for the last two years. 'My job is to make sure we have a squad ready for pre-season, when we get down to work.' Danns made 85 league and cup appearances for Colchester after joining them from Blackburn Rovers in December 2004, initially on loan. He left the U's to join Birmingham City, in the summer of 2006. 'Mark Duffy is no stranger to Haig Avenue where he made 103 appearances in total scoring 19 goals in all competitions. Former Wanderer gets first permanent manager's role at ex Football League club

FORMER Wanderers midfielder Neil Danns has been appointed as the new manager of Southport. The Liverpudlian, who racked up more than 600 career appearances, including 116 in Bolton colours between 2013 and 2016, has accepted his first permanent role in the dugout at the National League North club. Danns had been placed in temporary charge of Macclesfield in December 2022, taking the Silkmen to an unbeaten finish in the league at the time, and more recently he has been assistant manager at Tranmere Rovers in League Two. He links up with ex-Macclesfield teammate Mark Duffy in his new role and is eager to get going with the former Football League club. 'I'm really excited, grateful for the opportunity,' he said. 'I managed to get to a lot of Southport games last year and obviously I was assistant manager at Tranmere Rovers and we had Josh Williams on loan here. 'I don't live far away, just down the road in Ormskirk. But there is no much potential here and I am looking forward bringing that potential out. 'One of the things people would have seen when I was at Macclesfield is that I expect a lot of energy, a lot of confidence, and it's up to us to bring that out of the players now. 'We know it won't be easy and doesn't necessarily happen straight away but we are confident we can get them playing the way we envision and bring some real spirit. There's a really god fanbase here and it's important we all get behind each other.' Danns had a varied playing career spanning 16 different clubs, his longest stints being at Crystal Palace, Bolton and Bury. He was signed on loan by his former Selhurst Park boss Dougie Freedman and after an impressive spell was handed a two-year contract. He continued to be a fixture in the team after Freedman's departure and briefly served as vice-captain to Darren Pratley under Neil Lennon before being released after Bolton's relegation to League One in 2016. 'I was really proud of what I achieved in my career and played up to the age of 40, and that was one of things was probably most proud of. I'd always wondered as a youngster how long I would play on for,' Danns added. 'I am looking forward to the next phase of my career now.' Danns is not the first former Wanderer to take charge of the Sandgrounders, with Kevin Davies performing an eight-month stint from October 2017. Jimmy Meadows also managed both clubs, while Farnworth-born Alan Ball Senior also spent two years as manager of Southport in the late seventies.

Jayden Danns' worst fears realized as Liverpool star gets 'definitive' injury update

Jayden Danns will finish his loan at Sunderland without ever having played for the club, the Black Cats manager has confirmed. The injury picked up on his initial medical will rule him out for the remainder of the season. With Sunderland set to feature in the playoffs, there had been distant hope of a late (and potentially dramatic) cameo for Danns. But Regis Le Bris has dashed even those dreams, ruling the Liverpool forward out of playing any part in the campaign. It looked to be a bit of a risk when Arne Slot let Danns leave Anfield on a temporary deal in the January window, given the struggles of Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota. But it seems the young striker would not have been able to play a part for Liverpool anyway, with a back issue proving more troublesome than first feared. READ MORE: Liverpool dream XI for next season after Mohamed Salah contract and Virgil van Dijk update READ MORE: Liverpool winners and losers after Mohamed Salah signs new two year contract Liverpool and Sunderland both became aware of the problem before the loan was finalized but opted to go ahead with the deal in the hope Danns would be able to recover in time to play a role. That shows how eager the Championship club was to land his services, but the race against time has been lost. "He won't play with us this season, it is definitive now," confirmed Le Bris at a press conference. That draws a firm line under a bitterly disappointing second half of the campaign for Danns. The 19-year-old has probably hardly even set foot in Sunderland, having been based out of Liverpool for his recuperation. What looked like a great opportunity to get exposure to senior football and test his level has come to absolutely nothing, no doubt realizing his worst fears when the injury was picked up. But with the Sunderland move officially a write-off, Danns can at least turn his full focus to getting fit in time for pre-season. He will want to make the same kind of impression on Slot as he made on Jurgen Klopp, for whom he featured in the League Cup final against Chelsea last season. Perhaps he will even be able to convince Slot of the benefits of keeping him around, especially if there is churn in the forward department. Mohamed Salah just signed a new deal, but there are question marks over Nunez, Jota, and, indeed, Luis Diaz. Alternatively, Liverpool could try again with another loan move. Given Sunderland's determination to go ahead with the deal this season, perhaps it will come to the table again — either as a Championship or Premier League club, depending on how its season concludes in Danns' absence. There are likely to be other suitors too if Liverpool does look to organize a new loan. It has been a hugely frustrating period for Danns, but the teenager remains a really exciting talent, having looked at home whenever he has pulled on the Red jersey. At the least, it seems likely he would improve the squad of just about any second-tier club, and it wouldn't be a surprise to learn he could make a big impact in the Premier League, too. Whether he ends up proving his talent at Liverpool or elsewhere next season, it would take a brave person to bet against him coming back stronger.

Liverpool loanee Jayden Danns ruled out of Sunderland's promotion push

Liverpool striker Jayden Danns will not play any part in Sunderland's promotion push after being ruled out for the rest of the season. The 19-year-old academy graduate signed on loan for the Championship club on deadline day in February, but remained on Merseyside for treatment after concerns over a back injury were flagged during his medical. Advertisement There was hope initially that Danns would recover and be able to feature for Sunderland towards the back end of the campaign, potentially in the play-offs. However, that has now been dashed and Liverpool's focus is on getting him ready for the start of pre-season training in July. 'He won't play with us this season. It is definitive now,' Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris told reporters on Friday. Sunderland beat off interest from several Championship clubs to secure the teenager's services. Le Bris' side are fourth in the table and 16 points ahead of seventh-placed Middlesbrough with five games remaining. Danns, who has scored three goals in nine senior appearances for Liverpool, became the youngest player in the club's history to start a Champions League game when he lined up against PSV Eindhoven in January.
