New York Giants select DL Marcell Dareus in PFF's 2011 NFL re-draft
In 2011, the New York Giants were in the midst of the Tom Coughlin era that saw Big Blue win two Super Bowls.
They didn't have a top pick in the draft that year, selecting 19th overall, and the roster didn't need an immediate impact player. That was the year they selected cornerback Prince Amukamara, but hindsight is always 20/20, and Pro Football Focus thinks they would have gone a different direction if they had the information then that we have now.
Rather than selecting Amukamara with that pick, PFF suggests the Giants should have selected defensive tackle Marcell Dareus.
PFF makes these suggestions based on its own grades, and while Dareus may have had a bigger impact on the Giants than Amukamara did, they also would have had to deal with his off-field issues. Dareus faced scrutiny and suspensions for multiple violations of the NFL's substance abuse policy and was arrested after a car accident that resulted from a drag race.
Amukamara, meanwhile, has solid character and is still well-respected around the league.
And, if we're being honest here, Dareus would not have been in competition for much of anything with the likes of Justin Tuck, Chris Canty, Linval Joseph, and Jason Pierre-Paul taking up residence on the defensive line.
