Darkness Into Light charity walk to take place in Glasgow this weekend

It is now held in numerous countries around the world and has been done in Edinburgh in the past, but it will now take place in Glasgow for the first time too. The money raised will go to both Pieta House in Ireland, which is the charity the event was first started for, as well as SAMH in Scotland. It is being organised in Glasgow by the University of Glasgow's GAA society with the university teams from Strathclyde and Glasgow Caledonian also involved. Read More Local gaelic football club Glasgow Gaels and Hurling and Camogie club Ceann Creige are also taking part. It starts at Kelvin Way, opposite the University of Glasgow union on Saturday, May 10 at 4.15am and involves a 5k walk before watching the sunrise. The timing of it is to symbolise starting in the dark and finishing with the sun rising and the light appearing at the start of a new day, as a metaphor for those who are struggling with their mental health and to serve as a reminder that there is light at the end of the tunnel. The organisers of the event have stated: 'Join us for Darkness into Light 2025 - an early morning walk that begins in darkness and ends in the light of dawn. It's more than just a walk - it's a global movement to raise awareness for mental health and suicide prevention. 'Organised by Glasgow Uni GAA, this year's walk brings together Gaelic clubs and communities across Glasgow in a powerful show of unity and hope. Whether you've experienced mental health struggles yourself or want to stand with others, this event is for everyone. 'Proceeds from this event will go directly to Pieta House (Ireland) and SAMH (Scotland), two amazing charities providing life-saving support to those in need.' Tickets for the event remain available and cost £5 for adults and £3 for students. They can be purchased via this link.
