US: Private jet collision in Scottsdale kills 1

Arizona, US – Two private jets collided on Scottsdale Airport's runway in the southwestern US state of Arizona on Monday, killing at least one person and injuring others, officials said. 'A Learjet 35A veered off the runway after landing and crashed into a Gulfstream 200 business jet on the ramp at Scottsdale Municipal Airport in Arizona around 2:45pm local time on Monday, February 10 (2145 UTC),' according to the US Federal Aviation Administration. At least four people were injured in the crash, according to Scottsdale Fire Department Captain Dave Folio. The FAA added that the number of people on board the colliding jets was unknown. Of the injured people, two were taken to trauma centres and one person whose condition is stable was taken to a hospital, Folio said. He added that one of the passengers remained trapped in one of the jets, adding that 'we're doing everything we can to extricate and save the one soul that's still on board'. The reason why the plane veered off has yet to be confirmed. The FAA said that it is investigating the cause behind the crash. 'The FAA is temporarily pausing flights into the airport,' the administration, which has launched an investigation into the collision, added. Scottsdale airport is a popular hub for jets frequenting the Phoenix area, particularly during big sporting events. The crash in Scottsdale adds to a series of major plane crashes that occurred in the US in the past two weeks. Late in January a passenger jet collided with US Army Black Hawk helicopter in Washington, D.C. midair, killing 67 people. Days later, a medical jet crashed in Philadelphia, killing seven people and last week, a plane crashed in Alaska killing 10 people. DW

1 dead in Arizona after jet hits plane parked near Scottsdale airport

One person has died and four others were injured after a plane hit another on the ground near Scottsdale Airport in Arizona on Monday, authorities said. The crash "off the runway" was reported at 2:39 p.m., and first responders found one person dead on arrival, Scottsdale Fire Capt. Dave Folio said. Four others were injured, including two taken to medical facilities in critical condition, another whose treatment was delayed but whose condition was not given, and a fourth who refused treatment at the scene, the captain said. Airport spokesperson Kelli Kuester said at a news conference that one of the arriving plane's two sets of main landing gear failed upon landing, "resulting in the accident." The arriving plane was coming from Austin, she said. The Federal Aviation Administration said a Learjet 35A veered off the runway after landing and crashed into a Gulfstream 200 business jet. Worrick Robinson IV, a Nashville, Tennessee-based lawyer for Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil, said in a statement that the plane that crashed upon landing belongs to the singer, who was not on board. Robinson had no further details regarding who else was on the private jet, saying only that it was carrying two pilots and two passengers. "He is grateful for the critical aid of all first responders assisting today," Robinson said, referring to Neil. Jet Pros, a Scottsdale-based firm that charters private jets, said in a statement that the plane that was struck belongs to the company. It said no one on board the Gulfstream was injured. "External damages were sustained to the aircraft," the company said. Kuester said the jet struck by an arriving plane was 'parked on private property' adjacent to the facility. Flights at the airport were paused, the FAA said, and the incident was under investigation. Scottsdale Airport posted a statement on X at 7:38 p.m. saying the facility had reopened. Because an investigation was just starting, Folio said he was unable to answer questions about the collision. "This is still an active scene," he said. This article was originally published on

One dead, four injured after business jets collide at Arizona airport

At least one person was killed on Monday after a midsize business jet skidded off the runway while landing at the Scottsdale, Arizona, municipal airport and collided with another jet that was parked, authorities said. Dave Folio, a spokesperson with the Scottsdale Fire Department, said at a press conference that at least four other people were injured in the crash. One person remains trapped inside one of the planes and first responders were working to free them, he said, while three other people were taken to area hospitals. Folio provided no other details and it was not immediately clear what caused the jet to skid off the runway. The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement that it was investigating the crash, which it said involved a Learjet 35A that skidded off the runway, which then collided with a Gulfstream 200 jet. The incident comes at a time of heightened scrutiny of US air safety. National Transportation Safety Board investigators are probing three deadly crashes in recent weeks: the midair collision of a passenger jet and US Army Black Hawk helicopter in Washington, D.C., that killed 67 people, a medical jet crash in Philadelphia that killed seven people and a plane crash in Alaska that killed 10 people.
