Traffic calming measures proposed for Mashburn Road

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Nashville leaders have continued their push to make Metro's streets safer for pedestrians. They have shifted their focus to a problematic road in the Woodbine neighborhood. The Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure has said that Mashburn Road is in critical need of traffic calming. The speed limit is 25 miles per hour, but NDOT said that 85% of drivers speed. Neighborhood News: Stories impacting your community | Read More Mashburn Road is in a highly residential area, which means lots of pedestrian traffic. In a neighborhood meeting this week, NDOT proposed adding speed cushions and radar feedback signs that would show people how fast they're driving. They also talked about adding 'Bulb outs,' which extend the sidewalk on street corners to slow down drivers who are making turns. The next step is the official design phase. NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS | WeGo 'Ticket to Ride' event kicks off 'What we still need to do to in order to finalize these plans is go out and do a site visit and take measurements and know exactly where we can and can't place cushions,' David Greaves with NDOT said. 'We also need to coordinate around driveways and all the minutia that goes into a project like this.' Soon, NDOT will send ballots to residents in the area so they can vote on the proposal. If two-thirds of voters give it a thumbs up, crews will begin construction. Do you have news happening in your neighborhood?
