New York Rangers call David Quinn to rejoin the team but not as a head coach

It's not everyday that a team calls back former head coach after firing them, and its even rarer to see a team calling back a coach and offer them the role of an assistant coach. The New York Rangers called their former coach, David Quinn to join them, not as a head coach, but as an assistant to Mike Sullivan. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now While the designation of Quinn has been demoted, many expected him not to join the Rangers again. However, it seems Quinn is more than happy to be a part of the New York Rangers. Will this new position affect his performance? Or will he be able to guide the team under Sullivan's umbrella? David Quinn joins New York Rangers as an assistant coach David Quinn was head coach for the New York Rangers from 2018 to 2021, where he guided the team by making important decisions. However, when Chris Drury became the Rangers' General Manager, he fired Quinn from his role, which led to a sour departure on Quinn's side. After getting relieved from the Rangers, Quinn went on to coach the San Jose Sharks from 2022 to 2024, after which he was called back by the Rangers in 2025. But, what made Quinn take this decision/ his last interaction with the Rangers was not exactly roses, but his bond with Mike Sullivan helped the Rangers hire Quinn. Even though the role is smaller than before, it is surprising that Quinn agreed to it. As per news, Joe Sacco and Ty Hennes will fill out the remaining roles. Though it is not made clear as to what designation Sacco and Hennes will get, it is sure that both will be joining the Rangers. The New York Rangers have failed to win the Stanley Cup since 1994. There have been various changes in coaching staff, players, and other tactics were applied, but all to vain. With Mike Sullivan taking on the role of the head coach, there's hope amongst fans that the Rangers will rise again. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Mike Sullivan guided the Pittsburgh Penguins and helped them win two Stanley Cups in 2016 and 2017. Besides, Sullivan had also coached Team USA at the 4-Nation's face off, which gives him an edge over other coaches. Another reason as to why Quinn willingly accepted the demoted role was because he had earlier worked with Sullivan in Pittsburgh and Team USA, both in an assistant role. Also Read:

New York Rangers expected to hire David Quinn, Joe Sacco, Ty Hennes as assistant coaches

David Quinn, Joe Sacco and Ty Hennes are all expected to join the New York Rangers staff as assistant coaches under new coach Mike Sullivan, a league source told The Athletic. The Rangers were able to name their assistants when Boston (Marco Sturm) and Pittsburgh (Dan Muse) announced new head coaches this week, taking all three names out of consideration. Quinn and Sacco are both former NHL head coaches. Advertisement The Quinn hire marks a reunion. He was the Rangers' head coach from 2018-19 to 2020-21, compiling a 96-87-25 record. General manager Chris Drury fired Quinn shortly taking over as team president. The 58-year-old coached the San Jose Sharks for two seasons and was one of Sullivan's assistants this past season in Pittsburgh. He'll likely help run the power play in New York. Joe Sacco spent most of last season as Boston's interim head coach after the Bruins fired Jim Montgomery. Before taking over for Montgomery, he spent nine seasons as an assistant coach for the Bruins. He worked closely with the team's penalty kill in Boston and got within one win of getting his name on the Stanley Cup in 2019. He was also the head coach of the Colorado Avalanche for four seasons. Sullivan, Quinn and Sacco were college teammates at Boston University, though Quinn did not appear in any games the year all three overlapped, as he had been diagnosed with a rare disorder that prevented blood from clotting properly. He was still co-captain of the team. Hennes has been under Sullivan his whole NHL coaching career. He started with the Penguins as a skills and skating coach in 2018-19, then moved up to an assistant role in 2022. Sullivan had already retained goaltending coach Jeff Malcolm and skills coach Christian Hmura, both of whom were on Peter Laviolette's Rangers staff last season. Muse, one of Laviolette's assistants, got the Pittsburgh job, and Michael Peca, another Laviolette assistant, went to Chicago. Both Muse and Peca had the opportunity to interview to remain as Rangers assistants after Laviolette's firing, The Athletic previously reported. 35-acre Wexford holding fetches almost €28k/acre at auction

Last featured here just two weeks ago, a 35-acre farm near Gorey, County Wexford, was successfully sold at an online auction last week on Wednesday, May 28. The property had a pre-auction expectation of between €15,000 and €20,000/acre, its location next to the picturesque village of Coolgreaney giving it something of an edge that might bring its value above its purely agricultural usage. The high-quality lands have extensive road frontage and a natural water course. They were in tillage until recently. Prior to the sale, auctioneer David Quinn of Gorey-based Quinn Property said that there were 10 registered bidders – 'mostly local farmers and businessmen.' Lot 1 (4.25 acres) and Lot 2 (30.35 acres) were offered initially, reaching a combined value of €530,000 (€15,100/acre). There appeared to be a stronger appetite for the entire holding (Lot 3). When it was offered to the virtual floor, rapid bidding brought the value to €850,000 (€24,300/acre). Lots 1 and 2 were offered once more and this time the combined value hit €890,000 before another bid on Lot 3 brought it to €910,000. It was only when another round on Lots 1 and 2 brought the combined total to €940,000 that bids on Lot 3 ceased and the property was then declared on the market. Four more bids on Lot 1 brought it to €140,000 (€32,200/acre) and a final bid on Lot 2 resulted in €830,000 (€27,300/acre). With a combined figure of €970,000 (€27,700/acre), it was well in excess of its expectations. Read More Good-value acreage in 58-acre Wicklow farm for June auction

Good-value acreage in 58-acre Wicklow farm for June auction

Coming up for auction on Wednesday June 18 next is a 58-acre farm in South Wicklow, close to the borders of Carlow and Wexford. The holding is at Ballymaghroe, just 1.7km from the village of Knockananna, 6.5km from Hacketstown, 14km from Aughrim and 11km from Tinahely. 'We're delighted to introduce this valuable parcel of land to the market,' says selling agent David Quinn of Gorey-based auctioneers and online sales specialists Quinn Property. 'The lands enjoy an excellent location along the L2004.' All the land is currently in grass and will suit a range of agricultural uses, the selling agent says. 'It offers easily accessible fields, ideal for grazing or tillage,' Mr Quinn said. 'And the holding's convenient location and natural layout will make an attractive investment for both farming and future development potential." The agent added planning permission may be an achievable goal at some future point on the property. Similarly to most auctions from the same company, this will be an online auction. The ample road frontage allows for the farm to be split into separate lots, which will be presented as follows: Lot 1 consists of 14.4 acres of good quality grassland with a range of outbuildings (price guide: €10,000-€12,000/acre; Lot 2 consists of 17.4 acres of rough grazing suitable for forestry plantation (price guide: €4,000/acre); Lot 3 is 26.3 acres of rough grazing suitable for forestry plantation (price guide: €4,000/acre); Lot 4 is the entire 58-acre holding including the outbuildings. Gen Z are more receptive to religion and spirituality than millennials

The public is divided in their attitudes towards the Catholic Church, but young adults are more approving of religion than the generation before them, a new poll has revealed. The Iona Institute survey found that 18-to-24-year-olds ('Gen Z') are somewhat more favourable towards religion and spirituality than those aged 25-35 ('millennials'). Some 17% of 18-to-24-year-olds say they are religious compared with just 5% of millennials, while 54% from Gen Z say they are religious and/or spiritual compared with 46% of millennials. In addition, members of Gen Z are more likely to read spiritual or religious books, watch spiritual or religious content and follow individuals on social media who discuss spirituality and religion than 25-to-34-year-olds. The CEO of the Iona Institute, David Quinn, told he believes that young people's interest in religion is part of a search for purpose. Christian, Catholic, Chapel, Prayer Service. A recent study found that Irish teens are among the least happy in Europe, so it could be a response to rising levels of social anxiety,' he said. 'In America, they are seeing what's been called a 'quiet revival' in church attendance among young people.' The poll also shows that the public has differing attitudes towards Christianity on the one hand and the Catholic Church on the other. Some lit up candles at a church. Pic: Getty Images Half of the respondents to the poll said they have a positive view of Christianity, with 20% saying they have a negative view, and the rest in between. Only 27% of people have a favourable view of the Catholic Church overall, with 40% saying they have an unfavourable view, although 45% agree that Catholic teachings are still of benefit. 'When people think of the Catholic Church, they think of hierarchy and the cover-ups, but when they think of Catholic teachings, they think of something different. It could take a while for approval in the Church to rise again,' Mr Quinn said. The poll found that 27% of people say they would be happy if the Catholic Church vanished from Irish society completely, with 51% disagreeing with that stance and 21% neutral. Unsurprisingly, regular Mass-goers have by far the most positive view of the Church, while those who do not consider themselves Catholic at all have the most negative. 'Cultural Catholics' – those who say they are Catholic but rarely attend Mass – are somewhere in between. The poll found that 22% of respondents do not describe themselves as Catholic, which is roughly in line with Census 2022.
