It's safe to say that U.S. soccer fans are not pleased with what they've seen from head coach Mauricio Pochettino so far. Between the lackluster results in games and some outright blowouts that they've suffered, fans are starting to feel that Pochettino has either mailed it in or simply isn't cut out for the job. Advertisement But those feelings may pale in comparison to how some fans feel after a recent piece of news to hit the wire. According to soccer journalist David Sneyd, Pochettino interviewed for the head coaching position at the English Premier League team Brentford F.C. The team ultimately decided to hire Keith Andrews for the job and it's unclear if Pochettino was even offered the job. "Brentford, it can be revealed, did interview the Argentinian during their search for Frank's replacement. The club, who finished 10th in the Premier League last season, also sat down with former Nottingham Forest and Leicester City boss Steve Cooper," Sneyd wrote for The 42. What's more distressing for American soccer fans is that this interview most likely took place in the middle of the ongoing CONCACAF Gold Cup - which Pochettino is continuing to coach for. Advertisement As a result, many have taken to social media to say point-blank that it's time for Pochettino to go if he's already looking elsewhere: "If Pochettino interviewed for a club job then he needs to be sacked expeditiously !!! A year from World Cup and his name is being floated around about a club job is disgraceful," one user wrote on X. "This is beyond embarrassing and disrespectful from Poch a year before the World Cup. I'd rather the USMNT play with no manager than a rat like this," wrote another. "IF the report is true that Mauricio Pochettino interviewed for a Premier League job while in charge of the #USMNT, there will be SERIOUS questions asked about his commitment to the national team position a year out from the 2026 World Cup........" a third wrote. Speaking to Doug McIntyre, he denied ever speaking to Brentford F.C. Advertisement "This club never contacted me,' Pochettino said. 'I never talked to them.' The report strained credulity even without Pochettino having publicly denied it. Between his preparations for the Gold Cup quarterfinals this weekend and the fact that he had previously denied interview requests with even bigger clubs, we can probably assume that some wires were crossed in this reporting.
