$6.13 million Megabucks jackpot claimed by Quincy trust
DORCHESTER, Mass. (WWLP) – A $6.13 million Megabucks jackpot from the January 27 drawing has been officially claimed by Mega Stars Trust of Quincy. The trust, represented by trustee David Spillane, opted for the cash option, receiving a one-time payment of $4,108,675 before taxes. According to Spillane, the winner plans to use the winnings to support their children's education. The winning ticket was sold at Rockland Liquors, located at 347 Market St. in Rockland. As a result, the store will receive a $50,000 bonus for selling the lucky ticket. This marks the fifth Megabucks jackpot won since the game underwent changes in November 2023 to offer better odds, larger average jackpots, and increased non-jackpot prize amounts. The game also expanded its drawing schedule, adding Monday drawings to the traditional Wednesday and Saturday lineup. The odds of winning the Megabucks jackpot improved significantly following the game's redesign, with the number of choices reduced from 49 to 44. This adjustment improved the jackpot odds from 1 in 13,983,826 to 1 in 7,059,052.
